THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ANNUNCIATION IS COMING!
March 25 is the Annunciation of the Lordโa sacred moment when heaven touched earth in the most quiet yet powerful way.
On this day, we remember the visit of the Angel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary, bringing the message that she had been chosen to become the Mother of the Savior. This was not just an announcementโit was an invitation. God, in His humility, waited for Maryโs free โyes.โ And with her response, โLet it be done to me according to your word,โ the plan of salvation began to unfold in a new and visible way.
The Annunciation teaches us something deeply important: God does not force His will upon us. He invites. He calls. He waits. Maryโs fiat was an act of total surrender, trust, and love. She did not fully understand what lay aheadโthe suffering, the sacrifice, the sorrowโbut she trusted in Godโs promise. Her yes opened the door for Christ to enter the world.
It is also significant that this feast falls during Lent, a season of repentance and preparation. While Lent calls us to reflect on sin and conversion, the Annunciation reminds us of hope. Before the Cross, there was a โyes.โ Before the suffering, there was trust. Before redemption, there was surrender.
In a way, we are all invited to live our own Annunciation. God speaks to us dailyโin prayer, in Scripture, in the quiet movements of our hearts. Like Mary, we are given the choice to respond. Will we say yes, even when it is difficult? Will we trust, even when we do not fully understand?
As Holy Week approaches, the Annunciation becomes even more meaningful. The Child conceived in Maryโs womb is the same Jesus who will suffer, die, and rise again for our salvation. Her yes was not just for a momentโit was a lifelong offering that led her to stand faithfully at the foot of the Cross.
This March 25, let us honor Mary not only with words, but with imitation. Let us say our own โyesโ to Godโin our struggles, in our sacrifices, and in our daily lives.
For in every sincere โyesโ to God, Christ is born again in our hearts.
