Psalms 22:12-18 depict in vivid detail how Christ passed through His suffering of crucifixion. While Christ was being crucified on the cross, many fierce men, signified by mighty bulls, encompassed Him. They opened their mouth at Him like a ravening and roaring lion. Evil men, signified by dogs, surrounded Him, and a congregation of evildoers enclosed Him. They pierced His hands and feet. They divided His garments to themselves, and for His clothing they cast lots. They also looked, stared at Him with contempt and hatred. On the cross He was poured out like water. All His bones were out of joint because He could not hold up the weight of His body as it hung on the cross. This caused Him great agony and pain. Also, He counted all His bones. His heart was like wax melted within Him. His strength was dried up like a shard, a piece of broken pottery. His tongue was stuck to His jaws. God had put Him in the dust of death.

As I read this portion earlier, every word settles heavily in my heart. I find myself quietly reflecting on the depth of redemption the Lord carried on the cross. The suffering He endured was not only physical but deeply personal, a willing sacrifice for humanity. What humbles me is the realization that even after such love was poured out, many still reject and mock Him, even today. The cross is not just a story of suffering, but a mirror that gently asks how we will respond to such love.

If a man does not know God in his lifetime, he has wasted his whole life; if a day passed by that we do not know God or know the Lord a little more, that day is a wasted day. Every circumstance is an opportunity for us to know Him. May the Lord make us willing to accept His dealings in our circumstances so that we may know Him more.

GROWING AND FUNCTIONING THROUGH THE EXPERIENCE OF CHRIST

The new man is not perfected mainly by teaching. Teaching may actually be a frustration to our growth in life. Before the new man could be created, all the ordinances had to be abolished. Now for the new man to grow, we must be careful about doctrine. Ordinances are obstacles to the formation of the new man, and doctrines are frustrations to the growth of the new man. I hope that all those who take the lead in the local churches will realize that we should not place our trust in doctrine to produce growth in the saints. Growth only comes through the experience of Christ. The degree to which we can minister Christ is in direct proportion to our experience of Christ. The more we experience Him, the more we can minister Him to others. As we minister Christ, others will be nourished.

Romans 9 reveals the principle that everything depends on God's mercy. The apostle Paul applies this principle to the Israelites, showing us that everything that happened to them was of God's mercy. There must be at least one time when we see God's mercy and definitely touch His mercy.
Concerning this matter, our eyes need to be opened to see that everything depends on God's mercy. Whether we see this all at once, or we realize it through a process, the minute we touch this matter, we touch not a feeling but a fact; this fact is that "everything depends on God's mercy".

This prayer [in Matthew 6:9-13], as a pattern, cares first for God’s name, God’s kingdom, and God’s will, then second, for our need. This reveals that in this fighting prayer the Lord will still take care of our needs. According to verse 11, we are to ask “today” for our “daily bread. The King does not want His people to worry about tomorrow (v. 34); He wants them to pray only for today’s needs. The term daily bread indicates a living that is by faith. The kingdom people should not live on what they have stored; rather, they should live, by faith, on the Father’s daily supply. (Life-study of Matthew, p. 251)

In His prayer the Lord covered our daily necessity. He taught us to pray…only for today’s needs. When I was younger, we co-workers in China sometimes came to the end of our material supply, and we did not know how we would live the next day. Something always came to meet our need for that day. The Lord is faithful to take care of the supply of our daily necessity. (CWWL, 1994-1997, vol. 3, “The God-man Living,” pp. 538-539)

In Matthew 6 the Lord Jesus unveiled a pattern of prayer that is different from our natural concept of prayer. This prayer is not primarily for personal needs, spiritual enjoyment, or individual blessing; rather, it is a prayer that touches God’s eternal desire and expresses His will on the earth.

When the Lord said, “You then pray in this way” (Matt. 6:9), He was not giving His disciples a form to recite but a divine pattern that governs the direction, content, and nature of kingdom prayer. This pattern brings us out of self-centered supplication and ushers us into a realm where our praying is aligned with what God wants, what He is doing, and what He must have in His economy.

This prayer begins not with man but with God, not with earth but with heaven, not with our problems but with God’s name, kingdom, and will. In a short but weighty sequence, the Lord revealed that genuine prayer must first be occupied with God Himself—His sanctified name, His coming kingdom, and His accomplished will. This is a prayer of warfare that stands against Satan’s usurpation of the earth and cooperates with God for the recovery of His dominion. Such a prayer is intrinsically related to the kingdom, not merely to life or personal spirituality.

Furthermore, this pattern of prayer unveils the Divine Trinity in a practical and experiential way: the Father in the sanctifying of the name, the Son in the coming of the kingdom, and the Spirit in the carrying out of the divine will. This prayer governs the church life today and prepares the way for the coming kingdom age, when God’s name will be openly sanctified, His kingdom fully manifested, and His will universally accomplished.

NS520

1
Hidden behind every scene,
Lovingly, sweetly operating,
One who is sovereign and wise,
Patiently guides even our eyes.
Look at My Son, the Beloved,
Sitting here at My right hand.
Jesus is King, yet He’s bound,
He cannot move until His people
give Him ground.

Chorus
Lord, we see You! Lord, we love You!
Lord, we submit everything to You.
Each day, Your ruling and Your reigning
Brings a sweet supply.
Oh, what a rich blessing!
We’re in the hand of our King.
Everything You hope to accomplish,
do in me.

2
In us a small Kingdom seed,
Orders our steps, governs our deeds.
Jesus, enthroned in our hearts,
Gently He touches our every part.
Do you not know you’re the temple
Of your God, King of kings?
Through us our Lord has a way,
To rule and to reign here on the earth
day by day.

The people of Israel had been scattered, dispersed, in their captivity. They probably told the Gentiles among whom they were living that their God was Jehovah. Gentiles, especially the rulers, might have said to the Israelites, “Where is your Jehovah? Is your Jehovah real and living? If He is, why are you here in captivity as slaves?” During the years of the captivity, God was hiding, and He is still hiding. Even today, in the church age, God is hiding Himself. Both for the children of Israel and for us today, it seems that there is no God in this universe.

We need to realize that God is living and real, but He is hiding. He is a God who hides Himself (Isa. 45:15). God is omnipresent and also omnipotent, yet He is hiding. Nobody knows where He is.

Today we need to realize that the omnipotent God whom we are serving is still hiding Himself, especially when He is helping us. We cannot see Him, and apparently He is not doing anything for us. Actually, He is with us all the time and, in a hidden way, He is doing many things for us.

Matt. 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.
Heb. 12:14 Pursue peace with all men and sanctification, without which no one will see the Lord.

Those who are strict with themselves, merciful to others, and pure toward God are peacemakers. They do not like to offend, hurt, or damage anyone… To be a peacemaker does not mean to be political, [which] is falsehood and hypocrisy. We must be righteously square, not politically round… The New Jerusalem is square, not round… Although we are righteously square, we are still merciful toward others. This enables us to be pure toward God and to see Him. If we are such a person, spontaneously, we will be peacemakers. Instead of fighting with others and hurting them, we will always maintain peace with those with whom we are involved. (Life-study of Matthew, pp. 183-184)

In the Old Testament, there was a king of Judah by the name of Jehoshaphat.
At the time of Jehoshaphat, the kingdom of Judah was very weak and helpless in fighting against its enemies. Jehoshaphat was, of course, afraid when he looked at himself. He could do nothing before, and he could do nothing now. When the enemies came again, what could he do? He could do nothing. Yet he was a man who feared God. He “set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah”. He could do nothing except come to God. He acknowledged his helplessness, and his eyes were set upon the Lord. He said that he did not have the strength to withstand the enemy and did not know what to do. He could only look to the Lord.

2 Chronicles 20:15 says "...Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s."

The battle is the Lord’s! Victory or failure has nothing to do with us. Temper, pride, doubt, unclean thoughts, greed, and all kinds of sins have nothing to do with us. Even difficulties and sufferings we have been going through all along has nothing to do with us. The battle is not ours, but God’s. We are not the ones who are fighting; we are the spectators. We do not have to be afraid before God, because He is the One who will battle for us.

In Matthew 11:29 the Lord tells us to learn from Him. He is meek and lowly in heart. To be meek means to not resist any opposition. To be lowly means to not have any self-esteem. The Lord Jesus submitted Himself to the will of His Father, not wanting to do anything for Himself or expecting to gain something for Himself. Regardless of the situation He had rest in His heart; He was fully satisfied with the Father’s will. - Truth Lessons, Level Three, Vol. 3, msg. 46

To learn from Him is not to imitate Him outwardly but to copy the Lord in our spirit by taking His yoke—God's will. - The Conclusion of the New Testament: Experiencing, Enjoying, and Expressing Christ, Volume 1

If we are willing to take up the Lord's yoke and learn from Him, we will see that the things He gives us, the demand he has upon us, and the environment which He has arranged for us are all easy and light. Nothing that He causes us to pass through is unbearable for us. - CWWN, vol. 17, "Notes on Scriptural Messages (1)
