Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
-Amos 5:24
The Claretian Missionaries of the Fr. Rhoel Gallardo Province, stand united in protest against any attempt to distort or erase the truth of our nation's history. We reaffirm our commitment to the spirit of EDSA, where Filipinos bravely rose against oppression and injustice. We continue to carry the torch of that fight, defending truth, freedom, and the core values that define our democracy. .
is not meant to be just a slogan, but a solemn commitment—a pledge that we will never allow the horrors of the past to repeat. We must resist the forces that seek to sanitize the truth, erase the struggles of the oppressed, and glorify the very systems that once trampled on our rights and dignity. To forget is to betray those who sacrificed everything so that we may stand here today.
We reject any attempt to systematically normalize violence, silence and harass dissent and opposition voices, attack press freedom, undermine democratic institutions under the guise of law and order which target the poor but excuse those in power, distort historical truths and rewrite the atrocities of this era, whitewash the horrors of dictatorship, and brand impunity as strength. We reject this outrightly.
We call on every Filipino to remain vigilant against deception, to challenge the lies that threaten to take root in our history books, in our schools, and in the narratives shaped by those in power. Justice cannot be rewritten; the pain of victims cannot be erased; and the truth cannot be buried. Silence is complicity; and indifference allows oppression to return. The fight for truth is a responsibility we must all bear, not just for ourselves but for the generations that will come after us.
Together, we must resist corruption, patronage politics, lies, and impunity that continue to plague our society. Just as we stood up for truth and freedom during EDSA, we must stand up once more to ensure that the future of our country is not hijacked by anyone who wishes to distort or erase the truth of our nation's history. Let us be bold in protecting the integrity of our past, for it shapes the future we aspire to build.
The past has taught us. The present reminds us. The future depends on us.
In Quezon City, on the 23rd of February, in the Year of Our Lord 2025.
. .
The fight continues.
