One year ago, you answered the call to serve at the altar. Today, we celebrate that service.

This first anniversary is more than a milestone. It is a recognition of everyone who chose to continue, even through the challenges, and remained willing to give their time and effort for the ministry.

September 8 | Maryโ€™s Birthday

Tomorrow, the Church rejoices as we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the birth of the woman chosen by God to become the Mother of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Maryโ€™s life reminds us that great things often begin in the quietest and simplest ways. Through her humility, obedience, and unwavering fiat, she became a faithful instrument of Godโ€™s plan of salvation.

As we celebrate her birthday, may we also learn from her example: to say โ€œyesโ€ to God, to serve with humility, and to remain faithful in every responsibility entrusted to us.

โ€œBehold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.โ€ โ€” Luke 1:38

May the Blessed Virgin Mary continue to guide, protect, and intercede for us, especially as we serve her Son at the altar. May her gentle example inspire every altar server to serve not for recognition, but with love, reverence, and a sincere heart.

During the persecution of Christians in ancient Rome, a young altar server named Tarcisius was entrusted with bringing the Holy Eucharist to imprisoned believers. It was a sacred mission that demanded both courage and unwavering faith.

On his way, he was confronted by a group of boys who demanded to see what he carried. Knowing that he held the Body of Christ, Tarcisius refused to surrender the Blessed Sacrament. He endured insults, stones, and beatings, choosing to protect the Eucharist even at the cost of his own life.

His martyrdom became a lasting witness to profound love for Christ in the Eucharist. Today, the Church honors him as the Patron Saint of Altar Servers, inspiring generations to serve with reverence, humility, and steadfast devotion.

As we celebrate the Feast of Saint Tarcisius this August 15, may his witness remind us that true service is not measured by age or recognition, but by a heart that remains faithful to Christ until the very end.

Another milestone has been reached as our aspirants officially begin Phase 3 of their formation journey.

Having completed the initial stages of training, they are now engaged in hands-on formationโ€”learning not only the proper duties and responsibilities at the altar but also the values of discipline, reverence, humility, and service. Every lesson, every practice, and every step prepares them to become faithful servants of God and His Church.

As they continue this journey, may the Lord strengthen their hearts, deepen their faith, and guide them in answering His call with joy and dedication.

Today, as the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. John Mary Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests, the Diocese of Butuan also gives thanks for the 39th Sacerdotal Anniversary of our beloved Bishop, Most Rev. Cosme Damian R. Almedilla, D.D.

As we celebrate this special milestone, let us keep Bishop Ming in our prayers, asking the Lord to bless him with good health, strength, and abundant grace as he continues to lead the flock entrusted to his care.
