πππππππ | SOLEMNITY OF HOLY TRINITY
Gospel
Jn 20:19-23
Let us listen to Sem. Jose Luis P. Baumgartner as he shares his reflection in today's gospel.
β A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Reflection:
In many respect, our faith is a Trinitarian Faith as its core belief is centered into the proclamation of the Holy Trinity. This is evident when we begin and end our prayers with the Sign of the Cross, when we acclaim the minor doxology, and during the sacraments, when the Trinitarian formula is used as an acclaim to the one Godhead. But these assertions are all pointed to one concrete reality, a reality that has long surrounded this sacrosanct mystery. This reality, we call βLOVEβ β love that conceives communion with God, obtains forgiveness and reconciliation, and grants salvation.
In todayβs Gospel for Trinity Sunday, the evangelist John asserts an unchanged truth: that God loves the us so much, and this love that he has for us made him sent his only Son, Jesus, to dwell among us and to bring hope to the beleaguered humankind, ridden by sin and its sting that is death. Godβs love, therefore, is binding and healing; it balms the wound until it heals, and it brings rejuvenation anew. Love also paves way for Divine revelation β it is Godβs love for us that made him reveal the mystery of his very being to us in three different occasions: first, as the Creator, when he created the world; second, as the Redeemer, when he incarnated in the flesh in the person of Christ; and third, during Pentecost, when he descended upon the apostles to fortify them amidst fear and trembling of what are yet to come. And now, Godβs love for us allows us to feel his presence in our day-to-day life.
As Godβs beloved and recipients of this unfathomable love, may we emulate the Trinityβs example of perfect communion, complete participation, and wholehearted response to the mission that is to love our neighbors just as God has loved us. For, βamor vincit omniaβ β βlove conquers allβ.
