Today, we joyfully celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, the humble and faithful protector of the Holy Family.

St. Joseph the Worker Parish, located in Barangay Sangali, Zamboanga City, was established in 1992 and belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Zamboanga under the Vicariate of Our Lady of the Rosary. The parish celebrates its feast day every May 1 in honor of its patron, St. Joseph the Worker, who exemplifies humility, hard work, and devotion to family and faith.

The community of Sangali is predominantly Roman Catholic, with a significant presence of Muslim and Protestant residents as well. Various sitios within the barangay also observe their own fiestas, such as Sitio Daap on the fourth Saturday of April, Sitio Cania on the third Sunday of March, and Sitio Siguinan on June 22. These localized celebrations highlight the deep-rooted faith and cultural richness of the area.

As we honor his life of quiet strength and dedication, we also extend our heartfelt greetings to the parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Sangali on their Parochial Fiesta!

May St. Joseph continues to guide and inspire us to serve with love, work with integrity, and live with faith.

Viva Seรฑor San Jose!

Happy Fiesta, Sangali! ๐ŸŽ‰

Most Sacred heart of Jesus, on the day dedicated to honor you, we pledge ourselves anew to honor and serve you with our whole heart. Help us to live our daily lives in a spirit of true concern for others and deep gratitude to You and to all through whom You love and serve us.

In the midst of all our trials and tribulations, we will remember that You are always with us, as you were with the Apostles when their boat was tossed into the storm. We renew our faith and confidence in you.

We will never doubt that You are our friend, living within us always, walking beside us when courage fails, enlightening us when doubts cloud our vision of faith, protecting us against the assiduous lies and deceptions of the evil one.

Lord Jesus, bless each and every one of us, our families, our parish, our diocese, our country, and our entire world. Bless our jobs, our undertakings, our entertainments; may they always proceed from your inspiration.
In all that we do and say, may we be only channels of the love of Your Sacred Heart for all the people whom you bring within our reach to receive Your love through us.

Comfort those who are sick (Mention Names); those who are suffering in their hearts or mind; those who have burdens and are breaking under them (Mention Name).

These two things, most especially, we ask of you today; to know intimately and love all that your Sacred Heart loves, to imbibe the attitude of Your Sacred Heart and to express them in our lives.

Finally, we pray that our confidence in You may grow more and more genuine, day by day and our devotion to the designs of the Sacred Heart, more and more committed.

Amen

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!

From the joy-filled Encuentroโ€”where the Risen Christ meets His Blessed Motherโ€”to the triumphant chanting of the Regina Caeli, the day unfolds as a powerful proclamation of hope and victory.

What was once sorrow is now turned into rejoicing. The silence of the tomb gives way to alleluias, and the faithful are reminded that Christ is truly risenโ€”walking with His people, renewing hearts, and bringing light to every darkness.

Alleluia, alleluia! The Lord is risen indeed!

This fourth Sunday of the Easter season is sometimes called Good Shepherd Sunday because in each of the three lectionary cycles, the Gospel reading invites us to reflect on Jesus as the Good Shepherd. In each cycle the reading is from the tenth chapter of Johnโ€™s Gospel. This chapter sets the framework for Jesusโ€™ teaching about himself as the Good Shepherd.

Todayโ€™s reading falls between the stories of Jesusโ€™ healing of the man born blind and the raising of Lazarus. Both of these stories were proclaimed in the Gospels found in this yearโ€™s season of Lent. Following the controversy that ensued when Jesus healed the man born blind, Jesus directs his allegory about the sheep and the shepherd toward the Jewish religious leaders of his time, the Pharisees.

Throughout Johnโ€™s Gospel the Pharisees fail to accept Jesusโ€™ ministry and teaching. They show themselves to be โ€œrobbers and thievesโ€ because they try to lead the sheep without entering through the gate, Jesus. Through these metaphors, Jesus is telling his listeners that those who follow him and his way will find abundant life. He identifies himself both as the shepherd and the gate. The shepherds who are faithful to him are the ones whom the sheep (Jesusโ€™ disciples) should follow.

The relationship between the sheep and their shepherd is based on familiarity. Sheep recognize their shepherd and will not follow a stranger. At the end of the day, shepherds lead their sheep from pastures to a common gated area called a sheepfold. There, one shepherd protects all of the sheep until the next day when each shepherd returns to lead his own sheep to pasture. As shepherds move among the sheep, the sheep follow only their shepherd.

Todayโ€™s Gospel also gives us the opportunity to reflect on Christian leadership. Jesusโ€™ words suggest to us that those who will lead the Christian community will be known by their faithfulness to Jesus. The leaders will recognize that Jesus is the gate for all of the sheep and that having a good relationship with Jesus is the primary characteristic of a Christian leader. Jesusโ€™ allegory also suggests that faithful Christian leadership requires a good relationship with the community: the shepherd knows his sheep, and they know him. Christian leaders follow the example of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, by being faithful to him and by being a good shepherd.

A solemn expression of faith fills the streets of Tugbungan as the faithful accompany the Blessed Virgin Mary in her moment of deepest sorrow on Holy Saturday. In this sacred tradition, she is joined by the holy women who remained steadfast in Christโ€™s passion โ€” Mary Magdalene, Mary Salome, Mary of Cleophas, Mary of Bethany, Martha of Bethany, and Joanna wife of Chuza.

Marked by silence and prayer, the procession reflects a community united in mourning, yet holding on to hope โ€” waiting in faith for the promise of the Resurrection.
