PYM HISTORY AND TRIVIA

Did you know?

Two images accompany the pilgrims every year during the annual PYM Pilgrimage and Penitential Walk.

The first image is the Taize Cross. The name derives from the fact that the design was first created in the Taize Community in France. The current image dates to 2011 and was purchased in France on behalf of PYM Trinidad. It is made of printed paper pasted on a wood frame and depicts Jesus at the moment of his crucifixion. During the penitential walk, participants take turns in bearing the cross on their shoulders in commemoration of Jesus' own sacrifice and mandate to "take up your cross and follow me."

The second image is a depiction of the Sorrowful Mother (Spanish: Mater Dolorosa). Ever since 2014 an image of the Virgin Mary has accompanied the Taize Cross during the penitential walk. In the past, the PYM only borrowed images from the church, but in 2019 a two-feet sized image was ordered for the use of the PYM. The image is made of wood and fiber glass, and is dressed in actual clothes. Like the Taize Cross, the image of the Blessed Mother is also borne on the shoulders of those who accompany the penitential walk as she accompanies her son in his passion.

This year, let us accompany Our Lord and His Mother as we once again commemorate His passion and death.

PILGRIMAGE 2022

After two years of being unable to hold the annual traditional penitential walk, we humbly invite everyone to join us as we restore this decade-long tradition of the PYM this March 16, 2022 (Wednesday) at 4.30 AM.

The route for this year's Pilgrimage and Penitential Walk will visit the following chapels:
- Our Lady of Fatima Chapel, Brgy. La Victoria
- Sta. Lucia Chapel, Sitio Bocaue, Tagum Norte
- San Agustin Chapel, Tagum Norte

Assembly time will be at 4.30 in the morning, at the Parish Church.

Please bring rosaries and candles.

Participants are encouraged to wear pants and jackets due to the early morning assembly time. You may also bring umbrellas or rain coats in case of rain. Please bring your own water bottles and extra change of clothes.
