Main Scripture : 1 Timothy 2 [NASB]
A Call to Prayer
1 First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people,
2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
7 For this I was appointed as a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
“OUR CALL TO PRAYER AND CONCERN IN POLITICS”
1.Our Confidence is in Him [Christ] not to them [Politicians] [vv. 1-2a]
1 First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, 2 for kings and all who are in authority
1 Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
- There is one “King” the LORD JESUS CHRIST who is SOVEREIGN OVER our Government leaders.
- Do not be fanatics to any politicians, instead focus our allegiance or loyalty to Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord of all.
2. Our Conduct should be good and acceptable [vv. 2b-3a]
…so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
3 This is good and acceptable…
- Titus 3:1Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed,
2 to slander no one, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing every consideration for all people.
- Let us all exercise a godly living and law abiding citizen.
- 1 Peter 2 [NASB] 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority,
14 or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.
15 For such is the will of God, that by doing right you silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Act as free people, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but use it as bond-servants of God.
17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.
- Let us be submission to the authority.
3. Our Commission is the Gospel Proclamation [vv. 3b-7]
…in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.
7 For this I was appointed as a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
- Paul commanding us for an Evangelistic Prayer - “all men” (v.1) and “all leaders” (v.2)
- Do not allow your political affiliation and preferences will leads into division among other Christians
- These are our general call to pray for the salvation of our government leaders.
- God is by nature a “SAVING GOD”.
- Preach Jesus as the ultimate solution of all human problem.
- Proverbs 29 [KJV] 2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

To all national and local governement officials
Thanks be to God - we are reminded today, regardless of their political colors and ideologies. We need to Pray for them!
FINAL DECLARATION: 1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger and dispute.
