Leadership in the Lord’s kingdom has never been about status. It’s about service.

Whether we’re asked to teach a class, visit a neighbor, serve quietly behind the scenes, or lead a congregation, every calling is an opportunity to bless God’s children, not elevate ourselves.

When our greatest desire is simply to serve wherever the Lord needs us, He can accomplish remarkable things through willing hearts.

On June 5, 1961, the very first set of missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the Southern Far East Mission—Raymond Goodson, Kent Lowe, Harry Murray, and Nester Ledesma—set foot in the Philippines.

With no contacts and no clear plan, they rented a small apartment along Taft Avenue in Pasay City. Unsure where to begin, they simply decided: one companionship would go to the left, the other to the right. That humble step of faith opened the door to a miracle. From those early beginnings, the gospel began to take root. Families listened, hearts were touched, and testimonies were born.

Sixty-five years later, over 900,000 souls were baptized. What started with four young men walking the streets of Pasay has become a legacy of faith, devotion, and covenant-keeping across generations.

Today, we remember not only a historic moment in the Church's history in the Philippines, but also the thousands of personal conversion stories that followed. Behind every membership record is a son or daughter of God whose life was blessed by the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego taught us the power of an "even if" faith. They knew God could deliver them, but they chose to trust Him even if He didn't do it immediately. We can strive for that same level of devotion today.💕

When we experience trials that don't have quick answers, our faith can remain unshaken. We endure the present pain because we know that God's promises are sure and His arm will ultimately be revealed on our behalf.✨

When our children were young and came running through the door eager to share news about a classmate or friend, we always paused to ask the following question:

“Is that your story to tell?”

Decades later, this question still resonates. In a world of "instant updates" and "viral news," it is so easy to forget that behind every story or sound bite is a human heart beating with strengths, weaknesses, history, human frailty, and daily strivings.

Therefore, another person’s experience should be sacred ground.

I am reminded of a general conference talk I heard many years ago from Elder Cree-L Kofford, emeritus General Authority Seventy, titled “Your Name Is Safe in Our Home” (April 1999 general
conference).

He taught the following:

“All too often we seek to be excused from the very behavior we condemn in others. Mercy for me, justice for everyone else is a much too common addiction. When we deal with the name and reputation of another, we deal with something sacred in the sight of the Lord.

"There are those among us who would recoil in horror at the thought of stealing another person’s money or property but who don’t give a second thought to stealing another person’s good name or reputation.”

As children of a loving and living God, we are brothers and sisters navigating our own unique story. When we choose not to share someone else’s story, we are practicing the pure love of Jesus Christ. We are honoring one another’s gift of agency—allowing them to share their own triumphs and challenges and giving place for the Savior’s grace and healing.

“Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.

"The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth.” (Doctrine and Covenants 121:45-46).

May we strive to see others through the lens of the same mercy and charity that the Savior so abundantly showers upon each one of us.
