"Beware of Deception"
From the beginning of human history, deception has been one of the enemy’s most effective tools. In Genesis 3:4–5 (KJV), the serpent subtly twists God’s truth to mislead Eve:
“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Here, deception appears persuasive because it mixes truth with lies. The serpent challenges God’s warning and plants doubt, making disobedience seem desirable. This moment reveals how deception often works, not through obvious falsehoods, but through distortion and subtle contradiction of God’s Word.
Scripture repeatedly warns believers to stay alert. In Matthew 24:4 (KJV), Jesus cautions.
“Take heed that no man deceive you.”
Deception is not rare; it is widespread and dangerous. Without vigilance, even sincere hearts can be led astray.
The apostle Paul echoes this warning in 2 Corinthians 11:14 (KJV):
“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”
This shows that deception often looks appealing, good, or even spiritual. It can disguise itself as truth, making discernment essential for every believer.
God provides guidance on how to stand firm. In 1 John 4:1 (KJV), we are instructed:
“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God…
Testing what we hear against God’s Word protects us from error. Truth is the standard that exposes deception.
The warning from Genesis continues to echo today: deception begins when we question God’s truth and trust another voice above His. By staying grounded in Scripture, seeking discernment, and remaining watchful, we can guard our hearts and walk in truth rather than error.
