Did you know? When the world turned against Jesus and Calvary became a place of terror, one person did not step back…
When the crowds demanded Jesus’ death and the horror of Calvary unfolded, Mary stood firm…
⚡️She did not flee like many of the disciples. She freely chose to remain with her Son—fully aware that she could face the same rage from the mob that cried out for His blood.
⚡️She did not care if they would imprison her; her heart was resolute. At that very hour, she was willing even to die with her Son.
This was the ultimate act of selflessness and sacrifice. Mary, the New Eve, united her maternal heart completely with Christ's redemptive suffering. She didn't cling to her own comfort or safety. Instead, she consented with heroic faith to the immolation of the Victim she herself had brought into the world.
The Second Vatican Council beautifully captures this in Lumen Gentium (no. 58):
"The Blessed Virgin advanced in her pilgrimage of faith, and faithfully persevered in her union with her Son unto the cross, where she stood, in keeping with the divine plan, grieving exceedingly with her only begotten Son, uniting herself with a maternal heart with His sacrifice, and lovingly consenting to the immolation of this Victim which she herself had brought forth."
St. Ambrose praised her fortitude: While the men fled, "His mother stood before the Cross... She did not fear the torturers... His Mother offered herself to his persecutors."
St. Bernard of Clairvaux and other saints saw in Mary a "living martyrdom" at the Cross—she suffered in her soul all that her Son endured in His body, out of pure, selfless love for God and for us.

Mary teaches us that true love is sacrificial. In our own trials, may we stand with her at the Cross — willing to give, to suffer, and to trust completely in God's plan.
🙏 "Woman, behold your son" (John 19:26). Through Mary, we are all entrusted to the love born on Calvary.
