A CASE FOR YOUTH MINISTRY
Youth ministry is under fire.
Some say itβs outdated.
Others say teens just need βbig church,β or only intergenerational discipleship, or something else.
While I believe in big church and intergenerational discipleship, Iβm convinced of this:
Youth ministry is needed now more than ever. Actually, the right kind of youth ministry is needed now more than ever.
Hereβs why β¬οΈ
1οΈβ£ Teens are tribal.
Teens thrive in like-hearted community.
Youth ministry gives them a Gospel-centered tribe where worship, friendship, prayer, and mission strengthen their faith. Like the early disciples were mostly teenagers (Matthew 17:24-27; Exodus 30:14), our teenagers can learn, grow and go make disciples together.
2οΈβ£ Teens are questioning everything.
They need safe spaces to ask hard questionsβand leaders who open the Bible and give clear, compassionate answers (2 Timothy 4:1β4).
3οΈβ£ Teens are under attack.
From temptation to pressure to isolation, spiritual warfare is real (1 Peter 5:8). Youth group offers prayer, truth, and protection in community.
4οΈβ£ Teens want a cause.
When ignited by the mission of Jesus, teenagers become bold evangelists. Directed and connected, theyβre a force for Gospel impact.
Youth ministry isnβt a side showβitβs a launchpad.
If we elevate it, we unleash disciple-making, Gospel-advancing teens who can transform the church and the world.
Why do you think youth ministry matters today?
