O Our Lady of Sorrows,
whose heart was pierced by the sword of suffering,
help us to bear our own crosses with courage and trust.
Guide us to your Son, Jesus,
and strengthen us in times of trial.
May your example of faith, love, and sacrifice
lead us closer to God.

MAY IS MONTH OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY| FLORES DE MARIA

Its been 17th days after the start of the Month of May, May has long been dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in Catholic tradition, a time when the faithful express their devotion through various celebrations and rituals. One of the most beloved customs is "Flores de María," also known as "Flowers of Mary." This practice involves adorning altars, shrines, and statues of the Virgin Mary with fresh flowers, symbolizing purity, beauty, and new life.

The origins of dedicating May to Mary can be traced back to ancient times, In ancient Rome, the month of May was associated, these pre-Christian celebrations were integrated and transformed to honor Mary, the Mother of God.

The specific tradition of Flores de María began to take shape in medieval Europe, particularly in Spain and Italy. It became popular during the Baroque period, flourishing in communities where Marian devotion was deeply rooted. Today, this beautiful tradition continues to be a significant expression of faith, celebrated with processions, special masses, and communal gatherings.

May devotions often include the recitation of the Rosary, the singing of Marian hymns, and acts of charity and service, all dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Through these acts, the faithful seek Mary's intercession and strive to emulate her virtues in their daily lives.

Flores de María serves as a reminder of the special place the Virgin Mary holds in the hearts of Catholics, celebrating her as a mother, an intercessor, and a model of faithfulness and love.

BLACK SATURDAY •|•

Holy Saturday, or Black Saturday, ushers in with the darkness of Good Friday, commemorating the day that Jesus’ body lay in the tomb. Traditionally, the altar remains bare or is draped in a simple black cloth. In Catholic parishes, the administration of sacraments is limited. Holy Saturday is a time of suspense, quiet and solemnity, as Christians continue to mourn the death of Jesus Christ. In Catholic tradition, the Blessed Virgin Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows is given the title Our Lady of Solitude, for her grief at the earthly absence of her son, Jesus.
