James 1:19-27

How to Live out your Faith daily

1. Faith expressed in listening and speaking (vv.19-21)
A. Attentive Ears
Romans 10:17
"Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God"

B. with a bridled tongue and calm Spirit
Proverbs 10:19
"When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise"

2. Faith expressed in practice (vv.22-25)
A. Active Obedience
- Faith is not perfection, its persistence
Luke 11:28
" Jesus said, Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it"

B. Biblical Reflection
James copares the Word to a mirror
C. Continual Practice
Faith is not one time act but a daily walk

3. Faith expressed in daily life (vv.26-27)

" Let us not be hearers only, but doers of the Word. May our faith be evident not just in what we say, but in how we live."

Story of Apostle Peter in Matthew 26

Factors of Failure (Peter’s Example)
1. Overestimating strength
- Peter declared he would never deny Jesus, but his confidence was misplaced in his own ability rather than God’s grace.
2. Fear of disapproval
- When confronted by others, Peter denied knowing Jesus because he feared rejection and persecution.
3. Speaking without thinking
- Peter often spoke impulsively, such as rebuking Jesus or making rash promises, showing how words can stumble us when not guided by wisdom.

3 Steps of Recovery (Peter’s Response)

1. Weeping bitterly
- His tears showed genuine repentance and sorrow for sin.

2. Seeking fellowship
- He returned to the brothers and sisters, finding strength in community and accountability.

3. Casting on God’s mercy
- Ultimately, Peter trusted in Christ’s forgiveness and restoration, becoming a bold leader of the early church.
