The Great Commission
Matthew 28:19
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
Points:
1. Go — The Call to Evangelism (v.19a)
Therefore go
“The essence of evangelism is all about the lord Jesus Christ”
Evangelism Flourishes in a culture of Evangelism” it’s not a program, its Culture and Life style.
2. Make Disciples — The Call to Discipleship (v.19b)
and make disciples of all nations,
-Evangelism doesn’t end at conversion; it continues in discipleship.
3. Baptizing Them - The Seal of Identity (v.19c)
Baptism marks our new identity in Christ, publicly declaring we belong to the Triune God.
Presbyterians highly value baptism as one of the two sacraments (alongside the Lord’s Supper).
It is understood as a sign and seal of God’s covenant of grace, marking believers (and their children) as belonging to Christ and His church. Baptism is always done in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and is celebrated in public worship.
Jesus’ Baptism (Matthew 3:13–17): Jesus Himself was baptized, and the Father affirmed Him — “This is My beloved Son.” This shows baptism as identity and affirmation.
