BE IN THE KNOW | Where does the collection taken during Mass go?

Many Catholic faithful wonder where the collections or offerings given during the Holy Mass actually go. This common question invites us to better understand how our gifts support the life, mission, and charity of the Church.

The collection taken during Mass is used to support the mission of the Church, especially:
• The needs of the local parish (worship, utilities, maintenance, parish staff)
• The support of the clergy (stipends)
• Works of charity and assistance to the poor
• The diocesan and universal mission of the Church (when a second or special collection is designated)

These offerings are an expression of the faithful’s participation in the Church’s life and mission, not merely a financial transaction.
