WE LOVE JESUS IN THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH OF TODAY

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Sto. Niño, the yearly observance that is so dear to the hearts of all Filipino Catholics. This Feast not only brings us back to the beginning of the Christianization of our land but also enables us to see the relevance of this devotion to our lives today. In a special manner, it forces us to focus on our children and youth, with all the problems they may pose and the hopes they raise.

With gratitude to God, a new chapter begins for San Agustin Parish as we officially hold the Groundbreaking Ceremony for the San Agustin Parish Covered Court. This is an important milestone that reflects our shared vision of service, fellowship, and community building.

We were blessed by the presence of our Bishop of Tandag Most Rev. Raul B. Dael, DD, Municipal Mayor Hon. Nicolas O. Alameda, CE, MPA and Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Gerry Sacupayo together with our faithful parishioners, united in faith and hope as we start laying the foundation of a space meant to serve generations.

DOES SIMBANG GABI FULFILL THE SUNDAY OBLIGATION?

Simbang Gabi fulfills the Sunday obligation when it is celebrated on Saturday evening, at any time on Sunday (morning, afternoon, or evening).

According to Canon 1248 §1 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law, a Catholic satisfies the Sunday obligation by participating in any valid Mass celebrated in a Catholic rite either on Sunday itself or on the evening of the preceding day. What fulfills the obligation is not the name of the Mass, its novena character, or the particular readings used, but the fact that the faithful take part in the Eucharist at the proper time.

Since Simbang Gabi is a valid liturgical celebration of the Church, a Simbang Gabi Mass on Saturday evening or on Sunday—including Sunday evening—truly fulfills the Sunday obligation, while Simbang Gabi celebrated on other weekdays does not.

Simbang Gabi, or "Night Mass," is a cherished nine-day Catholic tradition in the Philippines, serving as a spiritual preparation for Christmas and a beautiful expression of our faith and devotion to Our Lord Jesus Christ. As the Church is a house of prayer and the dwelling of the Holy Spirit, it must be treated with reverence and respect, especially during Holy Mass. We are called to come with humble hearts, wearing modest attire that honors the sanctity of the Eucharist and the sacred space—this is not a fashion show, but a time for prayer and reflection. Remember, what truly matters is your sincere devotion and love for God, and all are welcome—regardless of their circumstances—because the Church invites everyone to encounter Christ’s grace through prayer and community.
