The Unforced Rhythm Of Grace

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Matthew 11: 26 - 30 MSG

Do you feel as though you are trapped on a never-ending treadmill based on your own efforts to try to earn God's forgiveness, God's approval, and God's acceptance? That is Christian religion.

If you are trying to earn your own forgiveness and thinking that God is constantly mad at you, I am here to tell you that is not the heart of God.

When Jesus spoke of "the unforced rhythms of grace," He means that there is an ease and enjoyment when you walk in His grace. This is in contrast to the struggle and strain found in self-effort. There is such rest when you know there is nothing you can do to earn His forgiveness.

Give up on your own self-righteousness, which the Bible describes as "filthy rags" (Isa. 64:6), and with open arms and an open heart, receive His forgiveness!

The key to getting out of a cycle of sin and defeat is to receive and to stop beating yourself up. Receive and stop punishing yourself because your sins have already been punished on the body of another—His name is Jesus, our beautiful Lord and Savior. No wonder the gospel is called the good news.

When you understand God's grace and forgiveness, you will understand the difference between obligation and relationship. Under the old covenant of the law, right living is done out of religious obligation. Under the new covenant of grace, every thing we do today is birthed out of an inward motivation that flows directly from a love relationship with Jesus.

My friend, God is not a legalist. He doesn't want you to read His Word just because He said so, as a religious obligation. He wants you to experience His love and spend time in His Word because you want to enjoy His sweet presence.

You can read His Word out of legalism and to try to earn God's forgiveness and acceptance, or you can do it out of relationship because you know you have been forgiven. The reality is, when you don't read the Bible, you should not be feeling guilty; you should be feeling hungry.

Jesus invites you to experience "the unforced rhythms of grace." Keep company with Him and you'll learn to live freely and lightly!

Grace in the
Believers Life

1. FAITH
“Through whom we have gained access by faith
into this grace in which we now stand.” (Romans
5:2)
Faith is the hand that receives what grace freely gives. It doesn’t earn God’s favor—it simply believes and receives it. Through faith, we enter and stand firm in the realm of grace, confident that all we have in Christ is already ours. Grace makes it available; faith makes it personal. Every
step of faith is a response to the grace that never fails.

2. HOPE
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
Hope is grace lifting our eyes beyond the present
toward God’s faithful promises. It’s not wishful thinking but confident expectation anchored in
Christ. Grace fills us with joy and peace even in
uncertainty because our hope rests not in
circumstances, but in a God who never fails.
Through His Spirit, grace keeps our hope alive,
strong, and overflowing.

3. LOVE
“And now these three remain: faith, hope and
love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1
Corinthians 13:13)
Love is the highest expression of grace. It is the heartbeat of God revealed through Christ, who loved us when we were unlovable. Grace teaches us that love is not a feeling to earn but a gift to share. It endures, forgives, and gives without expecting in return. When grace fills the heart, love becomes the natural language of those who
have truly encountered Jesus.

4. JOY
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.”
(Romans 15:13)
Joy is grace rejoicing within us. It’s not
dependent on circumstances but flows from knowing we are loved, forgiven, and secure in Christ. Grace gives us a joy that cannot be shaken—a deep, steady gladness anchored in His finished work. Even in trials, grace whispers, “Rejoice,” because Jesus has already won, and His victory is our confidence.

5. STRENGTH
“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for
you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.’”
(2 Corinthians 12:9)
Strength is grace empowering us in our weakness.
God doesn’t remove every struggle; instead, He
fills it with His power. Our limitations become the stage where His sufficiency shines. Grace reminds us that we don’t need to be strong on our
own—Christ’s strength flows best through
surrendered hearts. When we rest in His grace, weakness becomes the doorway to divine
strength.

6. REST
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find
rest for yoursouls.”
(Matthew 11:28-29)
Rest is grace inviting us to cease striving and
simply come to Jesus. It’s not the absence of work, but the presence of peace found in His finished work. When we learn from His gentleness and humility, our souls find true rest— no longer driven by performance, but anchored in His love. Grace quiets the restless heart and teaches us to live from a place of divine calm and confidence.

7. CONTENTMENT
“I have learned to be content whatever the
circumstances... I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11-13)
Contentment is grace teaching the heart to rest in Christ rather than in circumstances. Paul
discovered that peace doesn’t come from having more, but from trusting the One who is enough.
Grace enables us to stay steady in abundance or
in lack because Christ Himself is our satisfaction.
True contentment flows not from what we
possess, but from knowing we are fully supplied in His grace.

8. ENDURANCE
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and
perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross... Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” (Hebrews
12:2-3)
Endurance is grace empowering us to keep going when life grows difficult. Jesus endured the cross through the joy of fulfilling the Father’s will and redeeming us. In the same way, grace strengthens us to persevere—not by our own resolve, but by
fixing our eyes on Him. When we focus on Christ’s endurance, His grace fuels ours, giving us courage to finish strong.

9. HOLINESS
“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to
ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live
self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this
present age.” (Titus 2:11-12)
Holiness is grace transforming us from the inside out. It’s not achieved by self-effort but produced by the power of grace working in us. Grace doesn’t excuse sin—it empowers us to overcome it. Through Christ, holiness becomes the fruit of a grateful heart responding to His love. True holiness is not about perfectionism, but about living in alignment with the One who made us new.

10. HUMILITY
“But He gives us more grace. That is why
Scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’” (James 4:6)
Humility is grace making room for more grace. It
is the posture of the heart that acknowledges total dependence on God. Pride resists grace, but
humility receives it freely. When we bow low
before Him, grace lifts us high in His favor. True
humility isn’t thinking less of ourselves—it’s
thinking of ourselves less, and resting more in the sufficiency of Christ.
