Share a Spoon is a young nongovernment organization that serves children in depressed communities in the province of Rizal. One of its projects, Share a Spoon prepares 30 children, ages 4-8, for first grade in public school.
Many of these children are children of street sweepers who earn PHP 1,800 (USD35) every 15 days. Because the parents have little education, they are unaware of or are unable to give their children the kind of attention needed to prepare them for grade school.
Teachers show the children how to recognize basic shapes and colors, how to recite the alphabet, count, and read! Since their Saturday classes began in July, many of the children can now read three-letter words.
Share a Spoon also provides children with nutritious meals and vitamins. For information on how you can support the work of Share a Spoon, please visit https://tinyurl.com/ShareASpoon
