LENT IS AROUND THE CORNER โœ๏ธ

Lent is a penitential season of forty days, during which the Church prepares the faithful for Easter through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], no. 540). By these practices, believers share in Christโ€™s forty days in the desert and are called to continual conversion and interior repentance (cf. CCC, nos. 1438โ€“1439).

Fasting, required on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, consists of one full meal and, if necessary, two smaller meals which together do not equal a full meal (cf. Code of Canon Law, can. 1251โ€“1252).

Abstinence, required on Ash Wednesday, all Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday, obliges the faithful to refrain from meat. Foods allowed include eggs, milk, cheese, fish, and other seafood (cf. CCC, no. 2043).

These penitential practices unite the faithful more closely to Christโ€™s Passion and prepare them to celebrate the Paschal Mystery with purified hearts. Those who are ill, pregnant, nursing, or otherwise unable are excused in accord with the Churchโ€™s pastoral discipline.

In the Roman Catholic tradition, Lent is a 40-day season of prayer, fasting, and repentance that prepares believers for the celebration of Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is observed by members of the Catholic Church as a time of spiritual renewal.

Hereโ€™s a simple overview:

When Lent happens

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends before the Mass of the Lordโ€™s Supper on Holy Thursday.

The 40 days recall the time Jesus spent fasting in the desert.
Main practices during Lent Catholics are encouraged to focus on three traditional Lenten practices:

Prayer โ€” growing closer to God

Fasting โ€” especially on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday

Almsgiving โ€” helping those in need

Common Lenten customs

Receiving ashes on the forehead on Ash Wednesday as a sign of repentance.
Giving up something meaningful (like sweets, social media, or habits) as a sacrifice.

Attending Stations of the Cross or additional Masses.

The overall purpose of Lent is conversion of heart โ€” turning back to God and preparing spiritually for Easter.
