Today, with all gladness, the church commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the birth of the Catholic Church in 33 A.D. According to the New Testament account in the Acts of the Apostles, this event took place fifty days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, during the Jewish feast of Pentecost, when many people from different nations were gathered in Jerusalem.

On that day in Jerusalem, the apostles, along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, were gathered in prayer when a mighty wind filled the house, and tongues of fire appeared over them, signifying the presence of the Holy Spirit. They were filled with divine power and began to speak in different languages, enabling them to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. This moment marked the beginning of the Catholic Churchโ€™s mission, when the apostles were transformed from fearful followers into bold missionaries of Christ.

Pentecost is called the โ€œbirthday of the Churchโ€ (33 A.D.) because it marks the moment when the Church officially began its public life and mission in the world (with Jesus Christ as the founder). Through the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, Jesusโ€™ promise was fulfilled, guiding, strengthening, and sanctifying the apostles as they began to baptize, teach, and spread the Christian faith from Jerusalem to the entire world.

Pope Leo XIV, a mathematician, stares at an equation as he enters the laboratory at the Vatican Observatory last Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

During his visit, he reminisced his days in the university as he viewed samples through a microscope, inspect meteorites firsthand, and viewed the sky through the observatory's massive telescope.

After appearing to His disciples and many followers during this period, Jesus prepared them for the mission they would continue after His departure. Before ascending, He instructed His disciples to proclaim the Gospel to all nations, make disciples, baptize believers, and become witnesses of Godโ€™s love and salvation to the world. He also promised that the Holy Spirit would come upon them to guide, strengthen, and remain with them in their mission.

The Ascension marks the completion of Christโ€™s earthly ministry and His return to the glory of the Father in heaven. It is a reminder that although Jesus physically departed from the earth, His presence continues through the Church, the sacraments, and the work of the Holy Spirit among His people. This feast also gives Christians hope and assurance of eternal life, as Christ opened the way for humanity to be united with God. More than a remembrance of an event, the Ascension challenges believers to continue Christโ€™s mission through lives of faith, love, service, and evangelization, becoming living witnesses of His teachings in the world today.

๐๐ซ๐š๐ฒ๐ž๐ซ:
Lord Jesus, as You ascended into heaven, strengthen our faith and guide us to follow Your teachings each day. Help us to become faithful witnesses of Your love and truth, and fill our hearts with hope as we continue Your mission on earth. May Your presence remain with us always and lead us closer to You. Amen.

The Incorrupt Body of San Isidro Labrador

The incorrupt body of San Isidro Labrador is more than just a physical marvelโ€”it is a sign of the enduring mystery of grace at work in the life of a humble man. In a world that often equates greatness with power, wealth, or influence, San Isidroโ€™s legacy reminds us that sanctity is often hidden in the quiet fidelity of everyday labor. He was not a bishop, theologian, or founder of religious orders. He was a farmerโ€”simple, poor, prayerful.

His incorrupt body stands as a witness not merely to a miracle, but to a life that bore fruit in holiness. It invites us to look beyond appearances and appreciate the sacred dignity of work, especially manual labor done with love and offered to God. San Isidroโ€™s life and incorruptibility point to a profound truth: that God dwells even in the furrows of the field, in the sweat of the brow, and in the silent rhythm of the plow guided by hands that pray as they toil.

This feast, and the miraculous preservation of his body, calls us to examine how we labor. Do we work with hearts turned toward heaven? Do we live simply and trust in Divine Providence? Like San Isidro, may we find God not only in churches and monasteries, but also in the soil, in the seasons, and in the sacred rhythm of our daily lives. For the incorruptible is born not from the extraordinary, but from the faithful living of the ordinary in union with God.
