"Things We Should Never Do For Our Parents"
God calls us not just to love our parents, but to honor them in how we think, speak, and act.
1.) Do not compare your parents to others.
* Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you."
Comparison is never God’s standard - Galatians 6:6 "Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches."
2.) Do not underestimate your parents.
* Proverbs 23:22 "Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old."
Value their wisdom. Honor their life experience. There is treasure in what they’ve lived through.
3.) Do not reject or neglect your parent's authority.
* Colossians 3:20 "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord."
* Ephesians 6:1 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right."
Their guidance is part of God’s design - meant to lead, protect, and shape us.
4.) Do not neglect their needs.
* 1 Timothy 5:8 "But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."
Caring for our parents, especially as they grow older, is not optional. It is a reflection of our faith in action. Love shows up, provides, and stays present.
5.) Do not bring them shame.
* Proverbs 10:1 " A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.
* Proverbs 23:24 "The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.
The way we live either honors them or hurts them. Choose wisdom. Choose righteousness.
May our lives bring honor, joy, and blessing to the ones God used to give us life.
