FATIMA VISIONARY, SISTER LUCIA DECLARED VENERABLE

Pope Francis has signed a decree declaring Sister Lucia, the visionary of Fatima, as Venerable.

The Pope has signed a Decree acknowledging the heroic virtues of the Servant of God Lucia de Juesus Rosa dos Santos. Lucia Santos, a Servant of God, played a pivotal role in the events of Fátima.

Born on March 28, 1907, in Aljustrel, Portugal, Lucia was the youngest of seven children. At the age of 10, while tending sheep with her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto, she witnessed the first heavenly apparition of the Angel of Portugal, who prepared them for a greater visitation.

On May 13, 1917, Lucia, along with her cousins, experienced the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Cova de Iria. The apparitions continued each month, except for August, until October 1917. During these encounters, Mary emphasized the importance of prayer, especially the rosary, and sacrifice. She also shared prophecies about future events, including the end of World War I, the rise of communism in Russia, the annihilation of nations, and the suffering of the faithful.

After the deaths of Jacinta and Francisco during the flu pandemic of 1919, Lucia carried on the mission assigned to her. She joined the Sisters of St. Dorothy and later became a Discalced Carmelite nun, taking the name Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart. Throughout her life, she continued to receive private revelations and wrote books recounting the events of Fátima.

Sister Lucia made pilgrimages to Fatima on several occasions, including the 50th anniversary of the apparitions and the beatification of Jacinta and Francisco. She dedicated her life to spreading devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and answering questions about living the message of Fátima.

After a long life of faithful service, Sister Maria Lucia passed away on February 13, 2005. Her funeral took place at the cathedral of Coimbra, and she will be laid to rest at the Basilica in Fátima alongside her cousins. The legacy of Lucia Santos, the visionary of Fátima, continues to inspire and captivate believers around the world.

Our Lady promised the children on Sept. 13th to come with the Holy Family at the final apparition. We can be assured Jesus, Mary and Joseph came for all of us and are with us during all our earthly trials.

Our Lady's promise of a miracle in October at the exact time and place, drew 70,000 people to the Cova da Iria on Oct. 13. Unbelievers and believers could not deny the truth of the children's testimony after witnessing the great solar phenomena.

God wishes to establish devotion to my Immaculate Heart

The Promises attached to the Five First Saturdays Devotion:

1. Salvation of our own soul

To all those who, on the First Saturday of five consecutive months fulfill all the conditions requested, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their soul. This little devotion practiced with a good heart is then enough to procure infallibly for us – ex opere operato so to speak – as with the sacraments – the grace of final perseverance, of eternal salvation! And this promise is without any exclusion, limitation, or restriction. To all who I promise. Heaven for eternity for five Holy Communions!

2. Salvation of sinners

So numerous are the souls which the justice of God condemns for sins committed against Me that I come to ask for reparation. Sacrifice yourself for this intention and pray. (Our Lady to Sister Lucy at Tuy, June 13,1929.) In consideration of this little devotion, They (Jesus and Mary) wish to give the grace of pardon to souls who have had the misfortune of offending the Immaculate Heart of Mary, wrote Sister Lucy in a letter of May 1930.

3. Peace in the world

Whether the world has war or peace depends on the practice of this devotion, along with the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This is why I desire its propagation so ardently, especially because this is also the will of our dear Mother in Heaven. Sister Lucy, March 19,1939.

Our Lady of Fatima to Sister Lucia

Make known on my behalf that I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all who on First Saturday of five consecutive months shall confess, received sacramental communion, recite five decade of the rosary, 15 minutes meditation, with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
