TAKE NOTE, CATHOLICS: CHRISTMAS IS A SEASON, NOT A ONE-DAY CELEBRATION

Nativity the Lord, the Birth of Jesus Christ, and the First Day in the Octave of Christmas. Throughout Advent the Church longed ardently for the coming of our Savior. Today she celebrates His birth with unrestrained joy. "The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us." The Son of God became man to give us a share in that divine life which is eternally His in the Blessed Trinity. Christmas time begins on December 24 with the first Vespers of the feast and ends on the feast of the Baptism of Christ. White vestments reappear in our churches as a sign of joy.

POPE LEO XIV CELEBRATES HIS FIRST CHRISTMAS AS POPE

Pope Leo XIV celebrated his first Christmas as pope on December 24, 2025, with a midnight mass at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. He emphasized the importance of peace, charity, and hope, saying, "The Christmas of the Lord is the Christmas of peace."

In his homily, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the true meaning of Christmas, stating, "God gives us nothing less than his very self, in order to 'redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own."

The Pope also highlighted the need for compassion towards immigrants and the poor, saying, "Denying help to the poor is rejecting God."

He revived a tradition last observed by St. John Paul II in 1994, and will celebrate Christmas Day Mass at 10:00 a.m. Vatican time today, followed by the "Urbi et Orbi" blessing at noon

Day 3 - Novena to the Immaculate Conception

Mary, the handmaid of the Lord

Introductory Prayer
Lord God, when your Son came down from heaven, Mary had conceived him in her heart before she conceived him in her womb: grant that by holy and just deeds we may show forth in our lives the Christ whom we have received by faith, and who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Reading: Lk 1:34-38
And Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, since I have no husband?"
And the angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible."
And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.

Consideration
"Indeed, at the Annunciation Mary entrusted herself to God completely, with the ‘full submission of intellect and will,' manifesting ‘the obedience of faith' to him who spoke to her through his messenger. She responded, therefore, with all her human and feminine ‘I,' and this response of faith included both perfect cooperation with ‘the grace of God that precedes and assists' and perfect openness to the action of the Holy Spirit, who ‘constantly brings faith to completion by his gifts.'
"The word of the living God, announced to Mary by the angel, referred to her: ‘And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son' (Lk 1:31). By accepting this announcement, Mary was to become the ‘Mother of the Lord,' and the divine mystery of the Incarnation was to be accomplished in her: ‘The Father of mercies willed that the consent of the predestined Mother should precede the Incarnation.' And Mary gives this consent after she has heard everything the messenger has to say. . . . The mystery of the Incarnation was accomplished when Mary uttered her fiat: ‘Let it be to me according to your word,' which made possible, as far as it depended upon her in the divine plan, the granting of her Son's desire."
The Holy Rosary may be prayed.

Concluding Prayer
Lord God, you prepared a worthy dwelling place for your Son by the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin; grant, we pray, that, as you preserved her from all stain of sin in your foreknowledge of his death, so we, by her intercession, may come to you with pure hearts.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION IS COMING THIS DECEMBER 08, 2025

The Immaculate Conception refers to the dogma that the Blessed Virgin Mary was conceived without any stain of Original Sin in preparation for becoming the Mother of God, the Son Jesus Christ.

Before the creation of the world, God the Father chose the Blessed Virgin Mary to be the Mother of his Son, Jesus Christ. The Archangel Gabriel announced to her that she was "full of grace" (Luke 1:29)—or God's "favored one," as in some Scripture translations—indicating her unique worthiness to conceive the Son of God; she "was enriched by God with the gifts which befit such a role" (LG 56). From the very beginning the Church has believed not only that the Blessed Virgin Mary was a virgin but also that she was not conceived with any stain of Original Sin into which everyone is conceived after the sin of Adam and Eve. This unique privilege enabled her to fulfill perfectly her unique mission as the Mother of God. God the Father blessed the Mother of his Son more than any other created person "in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places [and chose her] in Christ before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before him in love" (Bl. Pius IX, Ineffabilis Deus [1854]: DS 2803). (Cf. CCC 966)

The Church has celebrated the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a feast since perhaps as early as the fifth century, and it was made a Holy Day of Obligation in 1708.
