COMPASSION THAT DRAWS SOUL TO CHRIST
MATTHEW 9:36 (NKJV)
“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.”
JUDE 1:20–23
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
“And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”
And on some have compassion, making a distinction;
but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”
INTRODUCTION
Compassion is not just a feeling—it is a divine force that moves the heart of God and mobilizes His people.
Without compassion, ministry becomes mechanical. But with compassion, souls are drawn to Christ.
1. JESUS WAS MOVED WITH COMPASSION
Jesus Christ is our greatest example of soul-winning compassion.
MATTHEW 9:36 (NKJV)
“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.”
Jesus did not just see the crowd—He felt their condition.
•He saw their weariness
•He saw their brokenness
•He saw their spiritual emptiness
•And compassion moved Him to act.
MATTHEW 14:14 (NKJV)
“And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.”
•Compassion sees beyond the surface.
•Compassion feels the pain of others.
2. COMPASSION MUST BE FELT TO MOVE YOU
Compassion is not intellectual—it is spiritual and emotional.
If you don’t feel, you won’t move.
If you don’t move, souls will not be reached.
COLOSSIANS 3:12 (NKJV)
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;”
God commands us to put on compassion.
ROMANS 9:2–3 (NKJV)
“That I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my countrymen according to the flesh,”
This is the heart of a soul winner—deep burden for the lost.
You must ask God for a compassionate heart.
3. COMPASSION MOVES US TO ACTION
Compassion is proven by action—not just words.
JAMES 2:15–17 (NKJV)
“If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,’ but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
True compassion does something.
1 JOHN 3:17–18 (NKJV)
“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”
•Compassion feeds the hungry
•Compassion reaches the lost
•Compassion shares the Gospel
4. LOVE OPENS HEARTS TO THE GOSPEL
People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
1 CORINTHIANS 13:1–2 (NKJV)
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith… but have not love, I am nothing.”
Without love, ministry has no power.
ROMANS 5:8 (NKJV)
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
•Love builds bridges
•Love breaks resistance
•Love prepares hearts for salvation
5. GOD USES MERCY AND URGENCY TO SAVE SOULS
There are different ways God reaches people—but compassion must be present.
JUDE 1:22–23 (NKJV)
“And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.”
Some need:
•Gentle compassion
•Urgent warning
•Strong intervention
2 CORINTHIANS 6:2 (NKJV)
“For He says: ‘In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
•Souls are in danger
•Time is limited
•We must act now
6. COMPASSION IS THE HEART OF SOUL WINNING
Soul winning is not a program—it is a burden.
LUKE 15:4 (NKJV)
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?”
This is the heart of God—He goes after the one.
PROVERBS 11:30 (NKJV)
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.”
CONCLUSION
Compassion is the bridge between the lost and the Savior.
Jesus was moved with compassion
We must feel compassion
Compassion must lead to action
Love opens hearts
Urgency saves lives
Do I feel compassion for the lost?
When was the last time I wept for souls?
