Proverbs 3:5 (NIV):

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV):

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”

Context of Proverbs 3

Proverbs 3 is part of the wisdom teachings of King Solomon to his son. The chapter emphasizes that true wisdom begins with fearing and trusting God. It encourages believers to live according to God’s commands, showing that obedience brings peace, favor, and guidance.

In the verses immediately before Proverbs 3:5–6 (verses 1–4), Solomon urges his son to:

* Remember God’s teachings.
* Keep His commandments.
* Practice love and faithfulness.

Then in verses 5–6, he explains how to live wisely:

* Trust in the Lord with all your heart—place complete confidence in God rather than relying solely on your own judgment.
* Lean not on your own understanding—our perspective is limited, but God sees the whole picture.
* In all your ways acknowledge (or submit to) Him—seek God’s guidance in every area of life, not just during difficult times.
* He will make your paths straight—God will direct your steps, helping you walk in the right way according to His will.

The following verses (7–12) continue the same theme by urging humility, reverence for God, and accepting His loving discipline.

Main lesson

Proverbs 3:5–6 is not a promise that life will always be easy. Rather, it teaches that when we wholeheartedly trust God, obey Him, and seek His direction instead of depending only on our own wisdom, He faithfully guides us along the path that is right and pleasing to Him.

One can be surrounded by God's truth; one can even memorize the Bible, and not have it effect the life for eternity. Curiosity or interest in God's Word without submission to it is a grave danger.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers of UPC APT! 🌸💖

Today, we honor the women whose love reflects the heart of God nurturing, praying, guiding, and standing strong in faith. Your sacrifices, kindness, and unwavering devotion are a blessing to your families and to the church.

“Her children arise and call her blessed.” — Proverbs 31:28 ✨

May the Lord continue to strengthen you, fill your hearts with peace, and reward you abundantly for all the love you give. Thank you for being godly examples of grace, faith, and unconditional love.

DO YOU WANT TO BE MADE WELL?
(based on John 5:5–9)

It sounds like such a simple question… almost too simple.
Of course we want healing.
Of course we want change.
But if we’re honest,
sometimes we get used to our condition. We learn how to survive in it.
We build routines around it.
We even start to believe
that this is just the way life will always be.

In John 5, there was a man
who had been sick for 38 years.
Thirty-eight years of waiting.
Thirty-eight years of disappointment. Thirty-eight years of watching others get their breakthrough while he stayed in the same place.

And then Jesus shows up.

Out of all the people there,
Jesus walks straight to him and asks,
“Do you want to be made well?”

Not, “What happened to you?”
Not, “Who’s to blame?”
Not even, “How long have you been like this?”

Just one question: Do you want to be made well?

Because desire matters.
Readiness matters.
Healing isn’t just about what God can do, it’s also about whether we’re willing to step into something new.

The man answers with excuses.
“I have no one to help me…”
“Someone else always gets there before me…”

In other words: It’s not possible for me.

But Jesus doesn’t argue with him.
He doesn’t debate his story.
He simply gives him a command:

“Get up. Pick up your mat and walk.”

And in that moment
everything changes.

Here’s the powerful truth:
The man didn’t need the pool.
He didn’t need the system.
He didn’t need perfect timing.

He needed Jesus.

And the same is true for us.

Sometimes we’re waiting
for the right conditions.
Sometimes we’re waiting
for people to help us.
Sometimes we’re waiting
for everything to line up perfectly.

But Jesus is saying: You don’t need all that. You need Me.

So today, hear that question again personally:

Do you want to be made well?

Do you want to be free
from what’s been holding you back?
Do you want to step out of that cycle?
Do you want to leave behind the mindset that’s kept you stuck?

Because if the answer is yes, then listen closely:

“Get up.”

Get up from discouragement.
Get up from fear.
Get up from the place you’ve been lying in for far too long.

“Pick up your mat.”

In other words, own your story,
but don’t stay in it.
What used to carry you
doesn’t define you anymore.

“And walk.”

Move forward.
Step into healing.
Step into change.
Step into the life
that God is calling you to.

You may not have all the answers.
You may not feel ready.
But healing doesn’t begin with having everything figured out,
it begins with a response.

So again…
Do you want to be made well?

Then RISE. WALK. And DON'T LOOK BACK.
