The journey of public service, faith, and integrity often begins with one unexpected moment. For a young lawyer from Cebu, it only took ten minutes to change the course of his life. At 30 years oldโfresh from a failed congressional run, recovering from personal setbacks, and uncertain about his next stepโhe found himself sitting before the Secretary of Justice. After a brief conversation, he was told, โYouโll be my spokesperson.โ That single moment became the start of a meaningful career in government service, eventually leading him to the Office of the Ombudsman.
In sharing his story, he reflects on what it truly means to โrun the raceโ in todayโs complicated world. Working in the Department of Justice and later in the Ombudsmanโs office exposed him to corruption, political pressure, and public criticism. Yet amid the noise and chaos, he discovered a powerful principle: radical simplicity. For him, leadership is not about playing political games or appearing tough. It is about staying calm, thinking clearly, and focusing on what is true and right.
He emphasizes that honesty and common sense are becoming rare but essential qualities in both public service and professional life. In an age dominated by social media outrage, misinformation, and manipulation, young professionals are challenged not to become passive consumers of negativity. Instead, they must choose integrity over influence, truth over trends, and substance over noise.
The talk also highlights the growing role of technology and artificial intelligence in society. While technology can improve efficiency and transparency, it can also weaken critical thinking when people blindly accept everything they see online. The speaker encourages young people to remain thoughtful, discerning, and responsible in how they use digital platforms. According to him, technology should serve humanityโnot control it.
