Have you ever prayed to God asking Him to simply help you get through the storm, when He was actually capable of calming the storm altogether?
Sometimes, our prayers reveal how small our expectations of God have become.
The disciples were in a boat when a powerful storm suddenly came. The waves were crashing into the boat, the water was filling it, and they were terrified. Jesus was asleep in the stern. So they woke Him and asked, “Don’t You care if we drown?”
They woke Jesus expecting Him to help them survive.
Maybe they thought He would help them bail out the water. Maybe they expected Him to tell them what to do. But they certainly weren't expecting what happened next.
Jesus stood up, spoke to the wind and the waves—and the storm became completely still.
The disciples were amazed.
“Even the wind and the waves obey Him!” — Mark 4:41
And sometimes, we are just like those disciples.
We pray, “Lord, help me endure this.”
But God may be saying, “I can do more than help you endure.”
We pray, “Lord, give me strength to carry this burden.”
But He may be saying, “Give the burden to Me.”
We pray, “Lord, help me find a way out.”
But He already sees a way that we cannot see.
We ask God to help us bail out the water, while forgetting that the One in our boat has authority over the waves themselves.
Maybe today, God is inviting you to raise your expectations—not because everything will always happen exactly the way you want, but because God is greater than the situation you are facing.
Your storm may be financial.
Your storm may be a broken relationship.
Your storm may be uncertainty about the future.
Your storm may be something you haven't even told anyone about.
Whatever it is, Jesus is still in the boat.
And if He seems silent, remember: His silence does not mean His absence. The disciples thought they were going to drown, yet Jesus was right there with them.
Don't underestimate what God can do in your life. Don't allow past disappointments to convince you that God cannot surprise you with something greater than you expected.
The same Jesus who commanded the wind and the waves is still the same Jesus today.
Don't just ask God to help you survive the storm. Trust Him with the storm itself.
Don't limit God to what you can see.
Don't measure His power by your circumstances.
Don't let low expectations become the limit of your faith.
You may not know how the story will unfold—but you can trust the One who holds the story.
Jesus is in your boat. And that changes everything. ❤️
