Traditional Feast of the Ascension
Thursday Devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus.
May 14, 2026 marks the Traditional Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, a sacred celebration commemorating Jesus Christโs glorious return to the Father forty days after His Resurrection. On this same Thursday, many faithful Catholics also honor the weekly devotion to Saint Jude Thaddeus, the beloved patron of desperate and hopeless causes. Together, these devotions beautifully remind us that our hope is always anchored in Christ, who reigns in Heaven and never abandons His people.
The Ascension is not merely the departure of Jesus from earth; it is His triumph. After conquering sin and death through His Passion and Resurrection, Christ ascended into Heaven to prepare a place for us. As the disciples watched Him rise, they were reminded that His mission on earth would continue through the Church. Though He ascended bodily into Heaven, He remains present through the Holy Spirit, the Holy Eucharist, and the faithful witness of believers throughout the world.
This feast invites us to lift our eyes and hearts toward Heaven. In a world burdened by fear, suffering, uncertainty, and division, the Ascension reminds us that Christ reigns above every storm. Our trials are temporary, but Godโs promises are eternal. Jesus did not leave humanity in abandonment; instead, He opened the gates of Heaven and called us to walk in faith until we meet Him in glory.
On this Thursday devotion to St. Jude Thaddeus, many turn to him in moments of despair and impossibility. Countless faithful have sought his intercession during times of sickness, brokenness, financial struggles, family problems, and spiritual darkness. St. Judeโs devotion teaches us perseverance in prayer and unwavering trust in Godโs mercy. Even when situations seem beyond human understanding, God continues to work in hidden and powerful ways.
The combination of the Ascension and the Thursday devotion to St. Jude carries a profound message: never lose hope. Christ reigns victorious in Heaven, and the saints continue to intercede for us. Our prayers are never ignored, and our suffering is never meaningless when united with God.
As we celebrate this holy day, may our hearts be strengthened with courage and faith. May we continue to seek Heaven above all earthly things and trust completely in the Lordโs perfect will.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, pray for us.
Lord Jesus Christ, King of Glory, lead us safely to Heaven.
