The rich young man kept all the commandments and yet something was still between him and Jesus. For him it was wealth. For each of us, there is a different 'thing' comfort, approval, control that we hold more tightly than we hold Christ. The invitation is not primarily about poverty; it is about freedom.

Two short words and the Church is born. Jesus breathes on the disciples just as God breathed life into Adam at the beginning of creation. Pentecost is a new creation: frightened people becoming bold, divided hearts becoming one, the ordinary receiving the extraordinary. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you. Jesus cries out this invitation in the middle of a feast to the crowd, to anyone thirsty enough to stop and listen. Thirst is not a sign of failure; it is the beginning of coming to Him. And when we come, we do not just receive a sip rivers flow. What we receive overflows into the lives of those around us. Your thirst today is an invitation, not a shame.

Peter had denied Jesus three times, and here Jesus restores him three times not with a lecture, but with a question: 'Do you love me?' Peter throws himself not on his record but on Christ's knowledge of him: You know me. You know even the parts I'm ashamed of. And still you ask. Jesus does not promise a trouble-free life. He promises a conquered one. The battles we face are real but we fight from victory, not toward it. The resurrection has already settled the final score. When trouble surrounds you today, remember: you are not standing at the edge of defeat. You are standing on the ground of the One who has already won.

He is listening, and His desire is your fullness of joy.
