Holy Gospel according to Matthew | February 1, 2026

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:
"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven."

The body of the late Pope Francis will be transferred to St. Peter’s Basilica on Wednesday at 9:00 AM to lie in state until his funeral on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM.

The Holy See Press Office announced on Tuesday that Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, will preside at the funeral Mass, which will be concelebrated by Patriarchs, Cardinals, Archbishops, Bishops, and priests from across the globe.

The Eucharistic celebration will conclude with the Ultima commendatio and the Valedictio, marking the beginning of the Novemdiales, or nine days of mourning and Masses for the repose of Pope Francis' soul.

The late Pope's body will then be taken into St. Peter’s Basilica and then to the Basilica of St. Mary Major for entombment.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the coffin containing the Pope’s body will be carried from the chapel of the Casa Santa Marta to St. Peter’s Basilica.

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, will preside over the rite of translation on April 23, which will begin at 9:00 AM with a moment of prayer.

The procession will pass through Santa Marta Square and the Square of the Roman Protomartyrs, according to the Holy See Press Office.

The procession will then exit through the Arch of the Bells into St. Peter’s Square and enter the Vatican Basilica through the central door.

At the Altar of the Confession, the Cardinal Camerlengo will preside over the Liturgy of the Word, at the conclusion of which the visits to the body of the Roman Pontiff will commence.

The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe | November 24,2024

The feast was established in 1925 by Pope Pius XI in his encyclical Quas Primas. It was introduced during a time of growing secularism and political turmoil to remind the world of Christ’s supreme authority over all human affairs. The feast invites believers to submit to Christ’s reign in their hearts, families, and society.

Spiritual Message:

Christ the King emphasizes humility, love, and service. Unlike worldly kings, Christ's reign is marked by sacrifice and servanthood. His ultimate act of kingship was his death on the cross, where he demonstrated the greatest love by giving his life for humanity.

The feast of Christ the King concludes the liturgical year, encouraging Christians to reflect on Jesus’ sovereignty and prepare for the advent of his eternal kingdom.

All Saints Day | November 1,2024

All Saints' Day has roots dating back to the early Christian Church, emerging as a way to honor martyrs and saints who had no specific feast day. In the early days of Christianity, the church faced intense persecution, and many Christians were martyred. Communities remembered these individuals for their faith and sacrifice, celebrating them collectively.

In the 4th century, the Eastern Church dedicated a day to "All Martyrs." Later, in 609 A.D., Pope Boniface IV dedicated the Roman Pantheon as a church to honor the Virgin Mary and all martyrs. The celebration later expanded to honor not only martyrs but all saints, both known and unknown.

By the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as a day of remembrance for all saints, and Pope Gregory IV made it a universal holiday in the 9th century. Over time, the holiday blended with cultural customs, especially in Western Christianity. Today, All Saints' Day is observed with prayer, church services, and family gatherings to honor and remember the departed.
