DEPARTMENT FOR CHURCH CHARITY AND SOCIAL MINISTRY
TAGAYTAY CITY, PHILIPPINES
June 9, 2026
To the Clergy, Monastics, and Faithful of the Russian Orthodox Parishes in Mindanao, Philippines
Dearly Beloved in Christ Brothers and Sisters,
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1)
With deep sorrow and profound concern, our department has received the news of the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the southern coast of Mindanao yesterday. We understand that your communities—particularly those in General Santos City, Sarangani, and the surrounding regions—are facing immense distress, widespread power disruptions, and structural damage, alongside the fear brought by severe aftershocks.
We weep with those who are grieving the loss of loved ones across the region, and we are lifting up fervent prayers for the recovery of the injured and the safety of those who are currently displaced.
In times of natural disaster, the Church must stand as a beacon of Christ's untiring love and practical refuge. Therefore, from the Department of Charity, we are reaching out to urgently assess how we can most effectively support your parishes and the broader local communities in the wake of this catastrophe.
To help us find funding and coordinate immediate and targeted relief, please let us know your most critical needs on the ground:
Safety and Assessment: Are our clergy, faithful, and their families safe? Have any of our parish churches, chapels, or community facilities sustained structural damage?
Immediate Humanitarian Aid: Is there an immediate shortage of clean drinking water, food supplies, medicines, or emergency shelter materials among your parishioners and neighbors?
Logistical Support: Are you currently organizing parish-led distribution centers or feeding programs to assist local evacuees, and what financial or material resources are required to sustain them?
Please know that you are not alone in this trial. The entire Church stands with you, ready to assist in binding up the wounds caused by this earthquake. We await your assessment as soon as communications safely permit, so that we may mobilize our resources to aid your recovery.
May the All-Merciful Lord strengthen your hands, guard your families against further danger, and grant you His deep, abiding peace during this hour of need.
With fraternal love in Christ Jesus,
Fr. David
