HONORING GOD'S GIFT OF LIFE

In today’s fast-paced and often demanding world, many young people silently struggle with stress, emotional overwhelm, identity concerns, and unmet needs. These challenges, when unaddressed, may affect not only their mental health but also their relationships, decision-making, and overall sense of purpose.

At the same time, mental health remains a sensitive and sometimes misunderstood topic within communities.

In response to the growing need to create safe, inclusive, and compassionate environments where young people can better understand their inner experiences without fear of judgment, the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) of St. Roch the Healer Parish spearheaded the forum 'Understanding Mental Health and Living Well in Faith: Feel, Heal, and Grow with God' on May 23 at St. Roch the Healer Parish in Manlurip, San Jose, Tacloban City.

The forum, facilitated by Life Coach Kay Katherine Zabala, integrated psychological insights with Catholic faith formation, grounded in the belief that caring for one’s mental and emotional well-being is an essential part of honoring God’s gift of life.

Here are snapshots from the forum, which brought together around 90 young people from different parishes.

SNAPSHOTS FROM THE PARISH RECOLLECTION FOR CHURCH MINISTRIES
March 28, 2026

The simple yet meaningful task of collecting the gifts of the faithful offered to God is a privilege and a commitment that we embrace with humility and devotion.

Under the Gift Ministry, together with other Church Ministries, some CWL members participated in a Parish Recollection, which gave us a deeper understanding of the Liturgy and offered reflections on our participation in this great mystical mystery.

The Gift Ministry is composed of the Mother Butler's Guild (MBG), Confraternity of Our Lady of Guadalupe (COLG), and the Catholic Women's League (CWL).

LENTEN SEASON CLEANUP
March 21, 2026

In preparing for the Holy Week, the CWL initiated a cleanup and beautification drive within the church grounds, an offering that reflects the truth that Lenten renewal is not just for the soul, but also the spaces where faith is lived and nurtured.

After the weeding, trimming, watering, and sweeping, the ladies excitedly went up to and gathered on the newly constructed veranda of the church for a photo op.

They also visited the Chinese bamboo saplings they planted last year.

SEMINAR ON WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT: Safe Women, Safe Children, Strong Society!
March 21, 2026

In celebration of Women's Month 2026, the Catholic Women's League (CWL) spearheaded the St. Roch the Healer Parish (SRTHP) Seminar on Women's Empowerment. The seminar emphasized education, awareness of women's rights, and access to support mechanisms as essential steps in preventing violence and ensuring the safety of women and children, thereby helping to build stronger Christian families and communities.

The resource person, Atty. Regina G. Paredes-Elizalde, discussed the nature and forms of Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC), access to support mechanisms, and relevant laws such as Republic Act 9262 (Anti-VAWC Act of 2004).

Rev. Fr. Mark Ivo A. Velasquez, SRTHP parish priest, highlighted the role of the Church and the community - working hand in hand - in prevention, protection, and response.

Participants' questions and shared experiences provided an in-depth perspective on the realities of VAWC.

Approximately one hundred participants from various barangays and communities within the parish attended the seminar. Each participant was given a Certificate of Participation.

IT'S SRTHP-CWL DAY!
March 1, 2026
First Sunday of March 2026

The CWL of St. Roch the Healer Parish ushered in the month of March with an offering of thanksgiving to God as the designated offerers during the first mass at 6:00 A.M.

With hopeful anticipation strengthened by prayer, the group during its monthly meeting held at Nipa Garden Resort assessed the preparations for its major activity this month - the Seminar on Women Empowerment. This is an activity to honor women in their vital role of building Christian families and communities, in line with the observance of Women's Month in March.

In keeping with the Lenten Season of reparation - to please the Lord Jesus and to atone on behalf of all of humanity, the CWL members sealed their commitment to meditate on the 24 Hours of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, to complete all the 24 Hours - everyday - following a Passion Clock, for the whole month of March until the Holy Week.

And, always celebrating the gift of life, the members cheer with joy and love the March birthday celebrators: Sis. Venus and Sis. Madonna, including Sis. Delilah even while on travel.✨
