Fundamental Doctrine:
The basic fundamental doctrine of this organization shall be the Bible standard of full salvation, which is repentance, baptism in water by immersion in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial sign of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. We shall endeavor to keep the unity of the faith, at the same time admonishing all brethren that they shall not contend for their views to the disunity of the body. Brief Information:
1977 – United Pentecostal Church – Tacloban Mission started by Pastor Elpidio Cotanda and his wife Sis. Peñaforta as a follow-up to a new convert couple Bro. Bernardita Verterra in their residence in Pampango, Tacloban City. Among the first converts were Bro. Romy and Sis. Dory Young, Bro. Fernando and Sis.Juanita Viter and their children, Bro. Henry Egrubay and few others. Not long after, Gerez family from Bañezville and Santuele family from Apitong joined the fellowship.
1985 – The congregation finally found a place to build a Fellowship Center when Bro. Domingo Teves and his family joined the fellowship and sold their lot in Kalipayan, Sagkahan, Tacloban City. The newly built Church was then inaugurated on December 5, 1985 and Pastor Antonio Mabilangan was installed Pastor by Rev. E. Cotanda. The newly built church then adopted the tittle UPC - Apostolic Christian Fellowship Center (ACFC). Thus, the first UPC – established church in Tacloban City.
1987 – Two years after the inauguration, the church encountered a major crisis that caused the installed Pastor to resign. ACFC requested the UPC Headquarters for a new shepherd and Pastor Amado Perez and Sis. Verlita his wife from Dulag, Leyte were then installed Pastor by Rev. Cotanda on the recommendation of the UPCPI General Superintendent Carl H. Varnell. With some workers and trainees, evangelism drives were done and new home bible studies were opened in the City and nearby towns.
2004 – With a careful discussion among the elders of the church and representatives from the outstations, it was on this year when the tittle “On Eagles’ Wings Ministries” (OEWM – taken from Exodus 19:4) was conceptualized as the Official Church Tittle of UPC – Tacloban City Central Church including all the Missions and outstations of the then ACFC. It is also in this year when “Tacloban For Jesus” (TFJ) Missions Program was created and other programs were re-created. These programs paved the way to establishing new churches and opening new mission fields. 1 year later, the program was changed to Tacloban for Jesus and Beyond.
2010 – UPC Tacloban City (OEWM) celebrated its 25th year of God’s faithfulness with 7 licensed ministers, 5 established churches, 5 outstations/mission fields and over 300 total membership (Outstations and Mission Fields included). Licensed Ministers includes; Bishop Amado Perez, Ptr. Antonio V. Montera Jr., Ptr. Jerry Panolino, Ptr. Reynaldo Verutiao, Ptr. Peñaforta Cotanda, Ptr. Grace Pore, Ptr. Juvy Rosas
