Sunday Homily | Gospel from Jeremiah
20:7-9 | 30th of August 2026

โ€˜Do not forget Peter and the rest of the disciples, you are my disciples and the disciples are to follow the teacher dili lang sa unsay gitudlo ni Hesus kundi you have to follow kung unsa pud ang pagadangatan sa atong kinabuhi didto sa Jerusalem. No one is to be my disciple unless one denies oneself, takes up oneโ€™s wrongs and follows after me.โ€™

The gospel of today reminds us that we might be granted with worldly objects and necessities for us to survive and live, this shall not be converted to something that indicates self-entitlement. As a Christian, our obligation does not end with following the words of God. However, it is extended to how we opt to live our lives in a way that it does show contentment, acquisition of an enough needs and must be regarded as a possession for necessity rather than a representation of superiority.

We are to not surpass where Jesus ought us to be, nor subvert what He directs us to do. As Christians we are to remain as a follower of our own teacher and that is Jesus.

Behind every meal is a story of generosity, compassion, and people coming together to care for one another. This morning, through the PPC-WESTY Feeding Program, we had the opportunity to share our blessings with the children of Kansaguibo Elementary School and bring a little warmth, joy, and hope to their day.

This program is not simply about putting food on the table. It is about reaching out to others, reminding them that they are cared for, and showing that even through simple acts of kindness, we can make a meaningful difference in someoneโ€™s life.

May we continue to serve with humble hearts, generous hands, and genuine compassion, following Christโ€™s example of loving and caring for others.

Gipangutana ni Jesus ang iyang mga tinun-an: โ€œKinsa man ako?โ€ Sa taliwala sa nagkalain-laing mga tubag, si Pedro mipahayag sa iyang pagtuo: โ€œIkaw ang Mesiyas, ang Anak sa Diyos.โ€ Kini nga pag-angkon nahimong pundasyon sa pagsalig ug pag-alagad ni Pedro ug sa Simbahan.

โ€ŽAng awtoridad nga gihatag ni Jesus dili alang sa kaugalingong gahum o dungog, kundili alang sa pag-atiman, pagpanalipod, ug pag-alagad sa uban. Ang tinuod nga lider dili maghari pinaagi sa kahadlok o pagpugos, kondili manguna pinaagi sa gugma, kamatuoran, kalooy, ug responsibilidad.

Christian Hospitality: Welcoming Everyone as Godโ€™s People

"We all are God's people, we have differences, but we should never use God's name to fight and kill each other."

Gihisgutan ni Rev. Fr. Euselito Tulipas ang sugilanon ni Jesus sa iyang pag-adto sa kayutaan duol sa mga siyudad sa Tiro ug Sidon. Didto, niduol kaniya ang usa ka babaye nga nangayo og tabang alang sa iyang anak nga babaye nga nag-antos. Bisan pa sa unang tubag ni Jesus, wala mohunong ang babaye sa iyang pagsalig ug paghangyo. Tungod sa iyang dakong pagtuo, giayo ni Jesus ang iyang anak.

Sa atong pang-adlaw-adlaw nga kinabuhi isip mga anak sa Diyos. Ang gibuhat ni Jesus nagpakita kanato sa Christian Hospitality o Kristohanong Pagdawat, ang pagdawat sa usag usa nga dili magbase sa estado sa kinabuhi, gigikanan, o kalainan sa pagtuo ug panan-aw.

Hinaut nga ato usab nga trataron og tarong ug dawaton ang atong mga kaigsuonan nga adunay lahi nga tinuhuan, gigikanan, ug panan-aw. Dili nato gamiton ang ngalan sa Diyos isip hinungdan sa pakiglalis, pag-away, o pagdaot sa uban. Hinuon, gamiton nato ang atong pagtuo aron makahimo og mga butang nga matarong ug nahiuyon sa kabubut-on sa atong Ginoo.

โ€œGod does not need defending.โ€

Sa panahon nga manginahanglan ang atong mga kaigsuonan og tabang, hinaut nga ato silang tabangan. Ug ato kanunay nga dad-on duol sa atong mga kasingkasing ang buhat ug tumong ni Jesus, kay kitang tanan mga anak sa Diyos ug patas ang iyang paghigugma kanato.

โ€œTake courage, it is I; do not be afraid.โ€
โ€” Matthew 14:27

In todayโ€™s Gospel, the disciples found themselves in the middle of a storm, surrounded by strong winds and troubled waters. In the midst of their fear, Jesus came to them and reminded them that they were not alone.

Like the disciples, we too experience storms in our lives. There are moments when fear, uncertainty, struggles, and doubts make us feel as though we are slowly losing our way. Sometimes, like Peter, we become so focused on the strength of the storm that we forget to keep our eyes on Jesus.

Yet the Gospel reminds us of something beautiful: Jesus does not abandon us in the midst of the storm. He comes to us, reaches out His hand, and invites us to trust Him.

Faith does not mean that we will never encounter storms. Rather, faith means believing that God is with us even when the waters are rough and the path ahead is uncertain.

May we learn to call upon Jesus in moments of fear, welcome Him into the โ€œboatโ€ of our lives, and continue moving forward with courage and trust.

"Every shared meal is a blessing that strengthens our bonds and shapes our values."

The table is more than a place where we satisfy our hungerโ€”it is where hearts meet, stories are shared, and values are passed on. In every meal shared with family, friends, and community, we learn gratitude, respect, generosity, forgiveness, and love.

As life becomes busier, these simple yet meaningful moments are slowly fading. We risk losing not only the habit of eating together but also the values that are nurtured through our presence with one another.

May every table become a place of encounter, where relationships are strengthened, faith is deepened, and love is shared. For in every meal we gather to share, God continues to bless us and shape us into a family united in His love.

Sa atong pagpangaon, dili lang kini usa ka buluhaton, kundili usa ka higayon diin kita nagakat-on sa mga bili nga nagahulma sa atong pagkatawo ug kinaiya. Pinaagi sa pagpakigbahin sa atong adlaw-adlaw nga kasinatian, kaalam, ug panag-uban sa lamesa, motubo ang gugma, pagrespeto, pagkamapasalamaton, ug panaghiusa.

Apan tungod sa kadali sa modernong pagkinabuhi, hinay-hinay nang nagakahanaw kining maayong mga batasan ug mga bili nga angay unta natong ampingan.

Hinaut nga sa matag higayon nga kita magtapok aron mokaon uban sa pamilya ug komunidad, mapalig-on ang atong relasyon sa usag usa ug sa Diyos. Kay sa matag lamesang gipaambitan, motubo ang gugma, mapalig-on ang panaghiusa, ug modagayday ang panalangin."
