Our Lady of Caysasay/Nuestra Señora de Caysasay The Our Lady of Caysasay/Nuestra Señora de Caysasay, the Queen of the Archdiocese of Lipa, Batangas

The Our Lady of Caysasay or Nuestra Señora de Caysasay was canonically crowned by Spanish Cardinal Fernando Quiroga, who represented Pope Pius XII, at the Basilica de San Martin de Tours in Taal, Batangas, Philippines, on December 8, 1954. She has been enshrined and venerated at Labac, Taal, Batangas, Philippines, since 1611. Please like our new fan page dedicated to her to demonstrate our faith, support, love, and trust in her.

HAPPY FIESTA, MAHAL NA PATRONG SAN JOSE -- MAY 1, 2026!

¡Venerado en El Pueblo de Taal -- celebrating the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker!

On the carroza, joining Saint Joseph the Worker in celebrating his feast day, are Our Lady of Caysasay -- the Mother and Queen of the Town of Taal, the Mother, Queen, and Patroness of the whole Province of Batangas, and the Mother and Queen of the Archdiocese of Lipa, Our Mama Mary of Caysasay -- and Saint Martin de Tours, our patron saint of the Heritage Town of Taal, Batangas, Philippines.

Did you know that Saint Joseph is not only the patron saint of our Bagumbayan in Taal, Batangas? That he is not only the patron saint of our Archdiocese of Lipa? Yes, because, aside from those, he is also officially known as the patron saint of the Universal Church in his role as the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus. It was at a very difficult time in the history of our Church when Blessed Pope Pius IX placed the Universal Church under his patronage. In 1870, Pope Pius IX declared Saint Joseph the Patron of the Catholic Church.

Likewise, Saint Joseph is the patron saint of workers and craftsmen. His feast as the worker was established by Pope Pius XII on May 1, 1955, for the purpose of giving a Christian context to labor, which emphasizes that work done with love is Holy and part of fulfilling life. It also highlights the dignity of human labor that positions him as the model for workers, aligning his feast with International Workers' Day.

Additionally, his feast as Saint Joseph the Worker is a time for us to pray for his intercession and guidance in our careers and protection for our families. It also encourages reflection on the dignity of all manual work and gratitude for the labor of others.

Hence, our Catholic Church celebrates two feast days of Saint Joseph every year: March 19 (Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of Mary and Foster Father of Jesus) and May 1 (Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker).

Prayer:

O Saint Joseph the Worker, please intercede for us to Jesus Christ, your Foster Son, to guide us in our careers and protect our families, and pray for us.

O Our Mama Mary of Caysasay and Saint Martin of Tours, please pray for us.

In Jesus Christ's name.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen. 🙏❤️🥺

Through the intercession of Your mother -- Our Mama Mary of Caysasay -- O Our Dear Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and hear our prayers

Psalm 57:2-4, NABRE:

"Have mercy on me, God,
have mercy on me.
In you I seek refuge.
In the shadow of your
wings I seek refuge
till harm pass[es] by.
I call to God Most High,
to God who provides
for me.
May God send help from
heaven to save me . . . .
May God send fidelity
and mercy."

O Our Lady of Caysasay, Mother of God and Mother of Mercy, intercede for us to your Son, Jesus Christ.

Our Father

Our Father who art in
heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day
our daily bread,
and forgive us our
trespasses,
as we forgive those who
trespass against us,
and lead us not into
temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary

Hail, Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst
women
and blessed is the fruit of
thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us, sinners,
now and at the hour of our
death.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen,
Mother of Mercy
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of
Eve.
To you do we send up our
sighs,
mourning and weeping in
this valley of tears
Turn then, most gracious
advocate,
Your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this exile
show unto us the blessed
fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary.

Glory be to the Father

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning,
is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.

Amen. 🙏❤️🥺

Our Lady of Caysasay, the most beautiful creature in both Heaven and Earth because she is one of the images of and represents Our Blessed Virgin Mary. The Mary who is more beautiful than any other -- surpassing all saints and angels. The kind of beauty, which reflects her sinless nature -- the Immaculate Conception, the full of grace, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, and, over and above all, the Mother of God!

Our Lady of Caysasay, the Mother, Queen, and Patroness of the whole Province of Batangas!

The Mother and Queen of the Archdiocese of Lipa!

Ad Jesum per Mariam!
(To Jesus through Mary!)

Viva Our Lady of Caysasay!

¡Viva la Virgen María!

Prayer:

O Mahal na Birhen ng Caysasay, kami'y palagiang lilingusin, tunghan ng iyong matang maamo't maawain, kaawaan, tulungan, pagpalain, gabayan, protektahan, ipag-adya, ipagsanggalang, pakikinggan, at ipanalangin.

Sa ngalan ng Mahal na Panginoong Jesukristo, iyong Anak.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto, sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum.

English (bersyon sa Tagalog, nasa ibaba):

Bridging the gap between a 19th-century relic and our modern days:

The Historical Anchor (circa the late 19th century)

We begin with a rare, Spanish-era lithograph from around the late 1800s. Labeled in the Spanish of the time -- “que se venera en el pueblo de TA-AL” -- this print is a weathered witness to history. With its faded lines and water-stained edges, it represents the quiet enduring faith of our ancestors. It is not just an image; it is a "biography" of devotion that has survived over 140 years.

The Contemporary Tributes (2024 and 2026)

Moving forward, featured below as well are two distinct interpretations emerging from the same century.

The Museum’s Perspective:

The recent painting produced by the National Museum of the Philippines -- now hanging inside the Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Caysasay at Labac, Taal, Batangas -- below offers a solemn and traditional view. Unmistakably, it is a beautiful muted tribute that respects the icon as a pillar of our national and cultural heritage, captured with the dignity of a gallery piece.

Our Masterpiece (from personal vision):

Finally, we present our most recently restored picture of Our Lady of Caysasay -- a labor of love and "intense devotion." Unlike the muted tones of the past, this version is an interpretation of light and glory. Every jewel is rendered to radiate, and every thread of the embroidery is brought to life to reflect not just a physical statue, but a heavenly vision. It is the icon as seen through the lens of personal faith -- vibrant, luminous, and present.

The Comparison:

Where the lithograph offers history, and the museum painting offers tradition, our restoration offers radiance.

By placing them side by side, undoubtedly, we see a beautiful truth: while the artistic style evolves -- from the gray tones of a 19th-century press to the brilliant digital canvas of today -- the "Expression of the Mother" remains our guiding north star.

Closing Note: "From the 'Pueblo de Taal' to the digital age, her grace remains unchanged. A journey from paper to soul." Ad Jesum per Mariam! (To Jesus through Mary!)

Prayer:

O Our Lady of Caysasay, pray for us.

Ave Maria Purísima, sin pecado concebida, ora pro nobis.

In Jesus Christ's name, your Son and our Lord.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Perhaps some people may ask: Why bring Our Lady of Caysasay into "Salubong" as the Mater Dolorosa y Soledad?

First and foremost, to summarize the clarification provided below, please allow me to emphasize that — through Our Lady of Caysasay, as we all know, is Our Mama Mary of the Pansipit River and Caysasay of Taal, Batangas — she is the same Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, who stood at the foot of our Lord Jesus Christ's cross during the last segment of His Passion and eventual death — the Mary who was the Sorrowful Mother during His crucifixion and painful demise.

Our Lady of Caysasay, represents the same Mary, who endured the intense emotional suffering while helplessly witnessing her Son immensely suffer, beyond anyone could ever imagine, and ultimately die on a cross.

Likewise, she is the same Soledad who profoundly suffered loneliness and mourning in solitude. The same Mary who suffered deep sorrow, endurance, and quiet contemplation after losing her Son, Jesus. The same Mary who, despite all these, firmly held the fire of faith in her heart without any complaint.

Clarification:

Staging a "Divine Crossover" that Bridges Two Distinct Traditions

Theological and artistic angles:.

1. It's the Universality of our Mother:

While Nuestra Señora de Caysasay is historically associated with her finding in the Pansipit River, she, at her core, is the same Mary, the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ. And by depicting her as the Mater Dolorosa y Soledad, we are simply showing a different "chapter" of her life.

It’s a way of saying that the same Mother — the Mother, Queen, and Patroness of the whole Province of Batangas and the Mother and Queen of the Archdiocese of Lipa — was also the Mother who stood at the foot of the cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ during His crucifixion and ultimate death.

2. It's an Attempt at the "Localization" of the Paschal Mystery:

In essence and by practice, Filipino faith is deeply rooted in local identity. Just as different towns bring their own patron saints to participate in the Holy Week processions, bringing an icon of Our Lady of Caysasay into the "Salubong" makes the Resurrection feel more personal to our community. It’s like saying, "Our local Mother wishes to partake as well in the universal joy of her Son’s victory."

3. The Symbolism of the "Encuentro":

The "Salubong" is all about the transition from Soledad (solitude/sorrow) to Aleluya (joy). Using an icon of Our Lady of Caysasay — which historically and traditionally is a small wooden image — and placing her in that grand and elaborate setting emphasizes the "magnificat" moment: the humble being lifted and the mourning being turned into dancing (as we cited in the Psalm!).

4. Artistic License and Innovation:

Sometimes, art is meant to make people look twice. By showing something nobody has ever seen before, we wish to invite our fellow faithful to look at a familiar devotion with fresh eyes.

It's a visual way of connecting the historical finding of the original image of Our Lady of Caysasay with the historical event of the Resurrection.

This said, we have to bear in mind that faith isn't static — it's a living story where our local devotions and the greatest mysteries of our Church meet together.

Finally, although we are aware that the commemoration of the Paschal Mystery is intended to remind us of the core and the foundation of our religion and relationship with God and make us feel and realize again and again how much He loves the world to send His only begotten Son to redeem the world from sins and make us all live — as devotees of Our Lady of Caysasay, the Mother of God and Our Mother, we ardently believe that honoring her, even a bit, in such a manner will not hurt the occasion at all.

Hence, one again:

Viva Jesus Christ!

Viva Our Lady of Caysasay!

¡Viva la Virgen Maria!

Note: The Our Lady of Caysasay here is an AI-restored image of her, based on and derived from the picture of her original image. It was artistically enlarged hereon solely for visual purposes and not one intended for misrepresentation.

Happy Easter to All!

Our post today has two parts. The first is focused on our Dear Lord Jesus Christ, the Redeemer, and the second part is more about His mother — Our Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Mama Mary of Caysasay — as Soledad, both in English and Tagalog versions.

English:

I. The Victory of the Risen Christ:

The stone has been rolled away, and the world is forever changed. Today, we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ — the ultimate triumph over death and evil. Through His rising, the grave is no longer a final destination but has been transformed into a passage of hope for all of humanity.

This is the heart of the Paschal Mystery: the ultimate victory over sin and the final defeat of darkness. In this sacred moment, the "sting of death" is removed, proving that evil never had the final word. Instead, we are offered reconciliation, eternal life, and a profound liberation from fear.

The Resurrection stands as the Christian Gospel’s greatest testament — the ultimate demonstration of God’s boundless love. He did not just conquer the grave; He opened the way for us to share in His glory.

Scriptural Reflections

On the Defeat of Death:

"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:55–57, NABRE).

On the Passage of Hope:

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3, NABRE).

On the Victory over Darkness:

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:5, NABRE).

On God’s Ultimate Love:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life" (John 3:16, NABRE).

II. Easter Sunday: The unveiling of Joy!

Transition from the "Great Silence" of Holy Saturday to the "Easter Joy" of Sunday morning:

Soledad meets the light of the Resurrection!

The mourning of the Soledad is transformed into the radiance of the Risen Lord. While the world stood in silence, her certain hope was realized. Today, the darkness of the tomb is shattered, and the promise of life eternal is fulfilled.

Scriptural Reference:

"He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay" (Matthew 28:6, NABRE).

Amen! 🙏❤️😇

Sabado de Gloria: A Day of Silence reflecting on our Dear Lord Jesus Christ's death and burial

"Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock. Then he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb and went away" (Matthew 27:59-60, NABRE).

Amen. 🙏❤️🥹

English:

Blending the silence of the Santo Entierro with the interior grief of Mary as Mater Dolorosa y Soledad:

To capture the full weight of the Sabado de Gloria, though it is primarily a commemoration of the silence of our Lord Jesus Christ in His tomb, as devotees of Our Lady of Caysasay, Our Blessed Virgin Mary, we can't help but likewise wish to reflect on what she had to endure during the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ. How unbearable it was for a loving mother to witness the enormous suffering, beyond what we could imagine, of her beloved Son helplessly and ultimately die on a cross.

The intense emotional suffering and deep sorrow she had to endure for her loss. And despite all these, she continued to pray, mourn in solitude, and firmly held the flame of faith alive in her heart without complaint.

Now, in the midst of the darkness and silence of the tomb of our Lord Jesus Christ, may we find the gift of light from His anticipated resurrection through the steadfast faith of Our Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Mama Mary of Caysasay.

Ad Jesum per Mariam.
(To Jesus through Mary.)

Amen. 🙏❤️🥺

Scriptural Reflections:

The Burial of Jesus (Ang Paglilibing kay Jesus)

"Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock. Then he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb and went away" (Matthew 27:59–60, NABRE).

Amen. 🙏❤️🥺
