The Parable of the Net (Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven)
Matthew 13:47-50

Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a fishing net thrown into the sea that gathers "fish of every kind." When the net is full, the fishermen sort the catch: the good fish are kept in baskets, and the bad (or worthless) fish are thrown away.

The verse explains that this represents the end of the age, where the good and the bad will be separated. The core verses (Matthew 13:47-49, NIV) describe this fishing net gathering all kinds of fish, which are later sorted by the fishermen into good and bad, representing the separation of the wicked from the righteous at the end of the age.

“Wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.”

In the famous novel by Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist, the main character, Santiago, travels the world in search of a hidden prize, only to realize his treasure was buried right where he started.

It’s a story many of us are living today. Often, we seek fulfillment in the "elsewhere" thinking that we will be happy once we get that next promotion, that higher status, or that perfect life. In our chase, we forget that the Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field (Matthew 13:44).

What does this mean for us in a world that defines success by what we own? How do we find a treasure that doesn't fade?

Discover the answer at our upcoming seminar!
