The Lord Who Enters the Waters to Raise Us to Life
As the Christmas Season draws to a close, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord reveals the tenderness of God who draws near to His people. Christ, the Light born in Bethlehem, now steps into the waters of the Jordanโembracing our humanity in all its fragility and need. Though He has no sin, He humbles Himself before John, making the waters a path toward new life for all who would follow Him.
In this moment, the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity shines forth: the Father speaks His delight, the Spirit descends in the form of a dove, and the Son stands in obedience. The heavens open and creation is blessed, foreshadowing the sacramental life of the Church through which grace will flow until the end of time.
For us, this feast is not simply a memoryโit is a reminder of who we are. Through Baptism, we were reborn of water and Spirit, claimed as beloved children, washed from sin, and welcomed into the Household of God. Our call as the baptized is to live in the truth, to resist darkness, and to make Christ visible in our words, choices, and actions.
As we reflect on this feast, let us renew our promises and deepen our gratitude for the gift of Baptism. Let us remember that holiness is not an impossible idealโit is a daily response to Godโs love, lived with courage, charity, and fidelity.
