Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of Almighty God, and by the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved from all stain of original sin.โ
In 1854, Pope Pius IX, through ๐๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ง๐ง๐ข๐ฃ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ด ๐๐ฆ๐ถ๐ด, clearly declared what the Church had long believed: that Mary was conceived without original sin. God gave her this special grace because of her unique mission to be the Mother of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Although Mary is unique, she is also our model. Her holiness, purity, and humble โYesโ to God teach us how to follow Godโs will in our own lives.
In our Gospel today (Luke 1:26โ38), the Angel Gabriel greets Mary as โfull of graceโ and invites her to become the Mother of the Savior. With complete trust, she responds, โLet it be done to me according to your word,โ showing her perfect obedience and love for Godโs plan.
Like Mary, we are all called to answer Godโs call and live the mission He prepared for us. Her โYesโ is the example every Christian is called to follow.
This Solemnity invites us to rejoice in Godโs great gift to humanity through Mary and to remember that each of us was created with a purpose and a mission.
โBefore I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you.โ
(Jeremiah 1:5)
