Vincentian Month - Day 27- Feast of Saint Vincent de Paul - To see through Saint Vincent’s eyes!

Vincent viewed reality with the eyes of an apostle and discerned the true needs of those who were poorest and most abandoned
- confronted this and sought responses with inventiveness, courage and confidence in God
- diversified, unceaselessly adapting and gearing down his action, seeking numerous collaborations: priests, consecrated women, and laity;
- simultaneously pushing forward evangelization and assistance or promotion of the
poor.
Jesus Christ, evangelizer of the poor, help the Vincentian Family, all who hold the Vincentian in their hearts, to see though Saint Vincent’s eyes. Always asking what must be done and uniting to collaboratively and effectively in our care for all, especially the most in need.

Vincentian Month - Day 26 - Dignity of every single Person!

People of Scarred Coin:
When asked again, “why treat that common nobody on the ground as if he is somebody?” Vincent instructed, “I must not judge a poor peasant man or woman by their appearance or their apparent intelligence […] but turn the medal [coin], and you will see by the light of faith that the Son of God, who willed to be poor, is represented to us by these poor people.”

Sometimes a person’s appearance or personality clashes with our view of the world. Vincent de Paul challenges us to not walk past the homeless woman on the street or ignore the man asking for change. As Vincentians, we are invited to see the dignity inherent in every single person we meet. As Vincentians, we are called to see through to the other side of the coin.

Vincentian Month - Day 25 - To Be Vincentian

To be Vincentian:
Therefore, if there is anything characteristic of a Vincentian person or institution, it must include a self-understanding and a commitment to social responsibility, particularly to addressing the needs of those who suffer or are marginalized by our society. With this in mind, our lives or our success are not measured by self-advancement alone but ultimately by what we do to help others and the human community as a whole to advance, with particular attention given to people who are disadvantaged or underprivileged by the structural realities of our society.
To be Vincentian means that we understand that the resources, skills, talents and opportunities with which we have been blessed find their full expression only when they are invested not just for our own benefit but also for the good and well-being of others, particularly to alleviate the suffering of the poor and outcast.

Vincentian Month - Day 23 - Docile to Divine Providence

“Do I dare say something without feeling shame? … There is no choice, it is necessary that I say it: After going over the principal things which have taken place in this Company, I think that had they been done before they were done, they would not have been done so well. I can say that about all of them without any exception. This is why I feel a special devotion in following step by step the adorable Providence of God. And the only consolation I have is that I firmly believe that our Lord has done and continues doing things in this Company”. SVP

Vincentian Month - Day 22 - The Heart of Jesus

“O my God, before heaven and earth I give You my heart, such as it is. I adore, for love of you, the decrees of Your paternal Providence regarding Your poor servant; in the presence of the whole heavenly court, I despise anything that could separate me from You. O Sovereign Goodness, You who want to be loved by sinners, give me love for You, and then command what You will: da quod jubes et jube quod vis [Give what you command, and command what you will].” Saint Vincent de Paul

“During this time of recreation, reflect on the eternal joy that you will have in heaven if, on earth, you love God and your neighbor as He has commanded you. To help you practice the love you owe your neighbor, remember when you are together that the bond of union among you is the Blood shed by the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ.” Saint Louise de Marillac

“They tell me I must worship him now in spirit and truth, but my poor spirit very often goes to sleep or roves around like an idler for want of something to fix its attention, and for the truth… I think I feel more true Union of heart and soul with him over a picture of the Crucifixion.” Saint Louise de Marillac

Vincentian Month - Day 20 - Sacramentality of the Poor!

“This lesson is part of the most unique, living and inalienable patrimony of Vincentian spirituality. This lesson is rooted in Matthew 25:40: whatever you did for one of these least brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Therefore in light of his faith Vincent de Paul discovered that the poor, besides being the beneficiaries of his services and efforts, were clear and obvious signs of the presence of the crucified Lord.” Fr.
