Success Godโ€™s Way
"The Lord has a wonderful plan for blessing and fulfillment in your life."

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

How do we become successful? Contrary to the wordโ€™s common definitionโ€”which usually involves fame, fortune, or powerโ€”true success means becoming the person God wants each of us to be. Hebrews 12:1 offers His perspective on this: โ€œTherefore, since we also have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, letโ€™s rid ourselves of every obstacle and the sin which so easily entangles us, and letโ€™s run with endurance the race that is set before us.โ€

Here, we see the keys to success. First, it is important to find encouragement from the lives of other believers who have seen Christโ€™s faithfulness and followed His directions. Next, we should get rid of anything that holds us back from obeying God. Finally, we are to persevere, even through difficult or discouraging times. Todayโ€™s passage answers our original question: We achieve success only by relying on Jesus for guidance and strength.

God has a wonderful plan for blessing and fulfillment in your life, and part of His plan is that you live with purpose and persistence. The Fatherโ€™s guidance will become clearer as you read His Word, pray for direction, and seek godly counsel. Does your definition of success for your life match the good plan God has for you?

A Lifestyle of Forgiveness
โ€œOffering God's mercy can be difficult; living with anger and bitterness is worse.โ€

Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:29-32)

Showing mercy to those who hurt us does not come naturallyโ€”itโ€™s easier to get angry at them. But God commands us to be merciful (Luke 6:36). We who have been shown divine mercy are to practice a lifestyle of forgiveness.

So why donโ€™t we? Sometimes our pride gets in the way. We are angered when treated with disrespect, passed over for a job, or ignored. At other times we get focused on other peopleโ€™s refusal to change, so we withhold mercy until they improve their behavior. And some of us have been badly hurt or treated unjustly. Our minds are filled with such pain that we become stuck in the past and cannot see how weโ€™ll ever be able to forgive.

An unforgiving attitude can have all sorts of unwanted consequences, including broken relationships, emotional bo***ge, and indifference toward the Lord. The longer we hold on to our anger, the more it will affect our fellowship, not only with other people but also with our heavenly Father.

It is hard for us to pardon those who tell lies about us, treat us badly, or cause harm to our loved ones. And yet their behavior towards us is not a reason to withhold mercy. God calls us to forgive as He forgave usโ€”and with His help, we can do just that.

As one manโ€™s trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one manโ€™s act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men (Romans 5:18๏ผ‰

Humanityโ€™s need for meaning, guidance, forgiveness, and moral strength are provided for in the Christian gospel, and nowhere else. Because of this, we should all make the gospel first in our thinking and doing. Paul saw this and wrote: Now I would remind you, brethren, in what terms I preached to you the gospelโ€ฆ For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 RSV).

How few, even of professing Christians, understand the words of Romans 5:10,18! These verses clearly state that the atonement of Christ restored the whole human race to favour with God. Christ is our peace, because he broke down the wall between God and humanity. By his own blood Christ signed the ransom papers for the race. And the Gospel is the glad word of that event.

Calvary is the โ€œdouble cureโ€ for sin. It takes away both sinโ€™s guilt and its power. Looking at the Cross, the believer sees the holiness of God, and repents; sees the power of God, and believes; sees the love of God, and is born again.

Morning Manna - In Heavenly Places (08/18/24)
______________________________
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Micah 6:8.

What a man is has greater influence than what he says. The quiet, consistent, godly life is a living epistle, known and read of all men. Holiness is not shaped from without or put on; it radiates from within. If goodness, purity, meekness, lowliness, and integrity dwell in the heart, they will shine forth in the character; and such a character is full of power. Not the instrument, but the great Worker in whose hand the instrument is used, receives the glory. The heart filled with the Saviour's love, daily receives grace to impart. The life reveals the redeeming power of the truth.

The witness borne concerning Jesus was, "Never man spake like this man" (John 7:46). The reason that Christ spoke as no other man spoke was that He lived as no other man lived. If He had not lived as He did, He could not have spoken as He did. His words bore with them convincing power, because they came from a heart pure and holy, burdened with love and sympathy, beneficence and truth....

While the shepherds were watching their flocks on the hills of Bethlehem, angels from heaven visited them. So today, while the humble worker for God is following his employment, angels stand by his side, listening to his words, noting the manner in which he does his work.... If he trusts constantly in God, these angel watchers will not allow his work to deteriorate. They will not permit it to be warped into lines that will imperil the cause of God. The Lord is looking upon the work that comes from the hands of His people. He will judge every piece of work, to see of what sort it is.

Pure and undefiled religion speaks for itself. It transforms the characters of all who receive it, improving their usefulness and beautifying all with which it is brought in contact.... A man's worth is not measured by the position of responsibility that he occupies but by the Christlike spirit that he reveals. When the Saviour abides in the heart the work bears the impress of the divine touch. Self does not appear. Christ is revealed as the One altogether lovely.
