EVOLUTION OF THE OLPS ALUMNI "SANO" ASSOCIATION
For many years, the word “Sano” has been the special way we call each other—men who once shared the life, lessons, and brotherhood of the OLPS Seminary. They say the term "sano" originally came from the word "paisano", meaning someone who comes from the same place. Over time, it became our badge of brotherhood, used lovingly by generations of ex-seminarians.
In a blog post by Sano Mene D., he described our terms beautifully:
Alumnus – someone who graduated from OLPS
Sano – anyone who once answered the call and enrolled in OLPS, even for a short time
SANO – Sorsogon Association of the Non-Ordained Inc., formed in 1993 by OLPS alumni
The original SANO organization was born from the desire to save the OLPS Minor Department from being closed. Their first general assembly was held on April 10, 1993, with the theme “Burugkos”—a reminder of unity.
Today, more than 32 years later, a new chapter begins.
The Our Lady of Peñafrancia Seminary Alumni Association Inc. (OLPSAAI) aims to bring everyone together—graduates, non-graduates, ordained, non-ordained, anyone who stayed at least one year in any OLPS seminary (High School, Philosophy, or Theology).
We honor the sacrifices, stories, and commitment of those who came before us. Their legacy is the foundation where this new association stands. Their brotherhood becomes our inspiration as we continue the mission, side by side, old batches guiding the new.
And now, Sano, we call upon you.🫵
If you lived even one year of your life inside the OLPS Seminary, you are part of this brotherhood. You belong here. Just as you once responded to a call to enter the seminary—you are now invited to come home.
