Viva, Santa Filomena!

Today, We celebrate the patronal feast day of our Barangay honoring St. Philomena.

St Philomena was a young Christian girl living in Greece in the 3rd century. She was persecuted for her faith and tortured before finally being murdered for her refusal to deny her Christian faith. St Philomena is considered a symbol of courage and perseverance in the faith, and is celebrated as a saint by the Catholic Church.

Third day novena in preparation for the patronal feast of Saint Philomena, Virgin and martyr.

The feast of St. Philomena is traditionally celebrated on the 11th day of August, however, in our Barangay it has been a custom to celebrate the feast of the Virgin thaumaturgist, Saint Philomena on the 4th and 5th day of July.

Dearest St. Philomena, your prayers are powerful because you are so close to Our Lord. Your child-like faith and devotion are an inspiration to all of the faithful. Many miracles have occurred as a result of your intercession. In your closeness to Our Lord, please lift up these my intentions in prayer…

St. Philomena, at such a young age, you gave everything to Jesus to become a consecrated virgin for the Kingdom. Giving even more, you gave your life as you suffered a martyr’s death to preserve your gift to our Lord. Pray for me, that I might have the same faith and willingness to accept God’s will no matter the cost.
