St. Hugh of Grenoble was born in the Dauphine region of France and became a notable Benedictine bishop recognized for his efforts in reform and his support of monastic life.

He began his ecclesiastical career as a canon at Valence Cathedral and was appointed bishop of Grenoble in 1080 during a synod in Avignon.

As bishop, Hugh implemented significant reforms within his diocese. However, when challenges arose, he chose to temporarily step down and live as a Benedictine monk at Chaise Dieu Abbey.

Pope Gregory VII called upon Hugh to resume his duties as bishop in Grenoble. During his tenure, Hugh supported St. Bruno, the founder of the Carthusian Order, by donating land for the creation of the Grande Chartreuse monastery.

His strong commitment to the Church and monastic traditions left a lasting legacy.St. Hugh passed away on April 1st and was canonized by Pope Innocent II in honor of his dedicated service. He continues to inspire those involved in church reform and the monastic vocation.

Blessed John of Parma, originally named John Buralli, was born in 1209 in Parma, Italy. At 25, he joined the Franciscan Order after establishing himself as a respected logic teacher.

He pursued further studies in Paris and became a successful teacher and preacher in cities like Bologna, Naples, and Rome, drawing large audiences and influential followers.In 1247, John was elected as the seventh Minister General of the Franciscans during a time when the Order needed renewal. Despite the pressures of leadership, he remained healthy, always kind, and humble. John was known for his willingness to help with everyday tasks, such as washing vegetables, when visiting Franciscan communities. He traveled extensively on foot to oversee and support the Order’s houses.John's humility shone through his dealings with others. For instance, when John of Ollis sought to preach, he insisted on a fair evaluation instead of favoritism. In Paris, he peacefully resolved disputes, earning respect even from those who previously opposed the Franciscans, like the University Doctor.

Struggling to maintain discipline and adhere strictly to the Franciscan Rule, John faced resistance and questioned his ability to lead effectively. He eventually stepped down and recommended St. Bonaventure as his successor. Following his resignation, John spent the last thirty years of his life in contemplation at the hermitage of Greccio. He died on March 19, 1289, and his tomb became renowned for miracles. The feast day of Blessed John of Parma is celebrated on March 20th.

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines will conduct a SCHEDULED POWER INTERRUPTION this coming Sunday, AUGUST 25, 2024, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This will affect the entire Province of Southern Leyte including Brgy. Bagacay, Brgy. Bulak and Brgy. Kikilo, in Abuyog, Leyte.

PURPOSE: To facilitate preventive maintenance of NGCP's 69kV circuit breaker for the SOLECO feeder at NGCP's Maasin Substation and maintenance of the Maasin–San Isidro 69kV transmission line.

We kindly advise the public to plan ahead for this whole day power interruption. For those with medical conditions or who rely on electricity for essential health equipment, please make arrangements for an alternative power source to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
