โ€œLord, increase my sufferings, and with them increase Your love in my heart.โ€
โ€” St. Rose of Lima

A life hidden in prayer, sacrifice, and love for Christ made St. Rose of Lima the first canonized saint of the Americas. Born in Peru, she belonged to the Third Order of St. Dominic, living a life of deep prayer and penance while caring for the poor and sick.

She is often depicted wearing the Dominican habit and a crown of roses, symbolizing both her beauty and the sacrifices she offered to God. She is the patroness of the Americas, the Philippines, and the indigenous peoples of the Americas.

In the Philippines, St. Rose of Lima is honored as the Secondary Patroness of the country, alongside the Immaculate Conception as Principal Patroness. Her witness reminds us that holiness can grow in the ordinary places of life when our hearts are completely given to God.

St. Rose of Lima, teach us to love Christ with a generous heart, to remain faithful in suffering, and to serve the poor with compassion. Pray for our nation and lead us closer to God.
Amen.

St. Rose of Lima, pray for us.

โ€œMary, the Virgin Mother of God, reigns with a motherโ€™s solicitude over the entire world.โ€
โ€” Pope Pius XII, Ad Caeli Reginam

Mary is Queen because she is the Mother of Christ, the King, and because she freely shared in His mission of salvation. Her crown is not a crown of earthly power, but of humble love, faithful obedience, and maternal care.

Established universally by Pope Pius XII in 1954, the feast invites us to look to Mary not merely as Queen, but as our Mother who leads us always to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth, pray for us.

ONE MONTH TO GO BEFORE THE FLUVIAL | September 19, 2026

One month from now, the Naga River will once again become a waterway of prayer as thousands of devotees gather for the Fluvial Procession of Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia and El Divino Rostro.

For generations, these waters have borne the devotion of Bicolanos and pilgrims who accompany Inรข on her journey home to the Basilica. From the early Dahong to the all-steel pagoda introduced in 1988, the form of the procession may have evolved, but the steadfast faith of the Pueblo Amante de Marรญa endures.

As we prepare to accompany Inรข once more, let us also remember to care for the path along which she passes. The Naga River is not merely the setting of a cherished tradition; it is part of the sacred heritage entrusted to us. May every devotee help preserve its waters, keeping them clean and worthy of the procession they have borne for generations. In caring for the river, our devotion to Inรข finds a tangible expressionโ€”not only in prayer and pilgrimage, but also in our shared responsibility to care for our common home.

Viva la Virgen!
Viva el Divino Rostro!

On this solemn feast, we honor the mystery of the Blessed Virgin Maryโ€™s Assumptionโ€”her being taken body and soul into the glory of heaven at the completion of her earthly life.

Pope Pius XII solemnly defined this truth as a dogma of faith on November 1, 1950, in Munificentissimus Deus. Yet this belief was not newly established; it had long been cherished and professed by generations of Christians.

Maryโ€™s Assumption points us toward the promise of our own faith: that Christ has conquered sin and death, and that those who remain faithful to Him are called to share in the glory of the resurrection.

May Mary, assumed into heaven, strengthen our hope, deepen our trust in God, and lead us ever closer to her Son.

We fly to thy patronage, O Holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

ONE MONTH TO GO BEFORE THE TRASLACION | SEPTEMBER 11, 2026

For 316 years, generations of Bicolanos have journeyed with Inรขโ€”a living devotion handed down through generations, expressed in prayer, sacrifice, and love for the Mother who leads us to Christ. Through the centuries, this devotion has become part of the life and faith of the Church of Bicol.

The Traslaciรณn is more than the transfer of an image. It is a penitential journeyโ€”an invitation to examine our lives, leave behind self-interest, and conform ourselves more faithfully to the will of God. In walking with Inรข, we are reminded to become servants of one anotherโ€”to carry especially the lost, the least, and the last.

As we prepare for this yearโ€™s Peรฑafrancia celebrations, plan your pilgrimage with prayer and intention. Check the official Peรฑafrancia 2026 schedules posted on the pages of the Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia Minor Basilica and National Shrine, The Naga Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Our Lady of Peรฑafrancia Parish, and make the necessary preparations to participate reverently in the celebrations.

Together, let us gather as a growing Churchโ€”walking with Inรข, drawing closer to El Divino Rostro.

Viva la Virgen!
