The Church's liturgical instructions distinguish between the roles of the clergy, ministers, and congregation. While the clergy and ministers bow to the altar as they enter or leave the sanctuary, the faithful in the pews are not required to do the same.

Our reverence is expressed by standing attentively, facing the altar, and participating fully, consciously, and actively in the sacred liturgy.
