Today, the Church lovingly remembers St. Philip Neri, often called the “Apostle of Rome” and widely known as the Patron Saint of Joy. His life is a beautiful reminder that holiness is not only found in solemnity, but also in a heart filled with genuine joy rooted in God.

St. Philip Neri lived a life of deep prayer, humility, and simplicity. Yet what made him especially remarkable was the joyful spirit that radiated through everything he did. He believed that sadness and discouragement have no place in a soul that truly trusts in God. His famous approach to holiness was gentle, approachable, and filled with humor — drawing many souls closer to Christ not through fear, but through love and joy.

Despite his deep spiritual life, St. Philip often expressed joy in simple and even playful ways, reminding others that faith should never become heavy or lifeless. He once said, “A joyful heart is more easily made perfect than a downcast one,” teaching us that joy is not just a feeling, but a fruit of a soul rooted in God’s presence.

His devotion to the Holy Spirit was also central to his life. In fact, he experienced a powerful outpouring of the Spirit that deepened his love for God and strengthened his mission to guide souls toward holiness. Through prayer, confession, and spiritual direction, he became a source of renewal for many people in Rome.

On this memorial, we are invited to reflect on the joy that comes from a life lived with God. Not a fleeting happiness based on circumstances, but a lasting joy that remains even in trials. St. Philip Neri reminds us that holiness does not take away joy — it perfects it.

May we learn from his example to live with lighter hearts, deeper faith, and greater love for God and others. And in moments of heaviness or discouragement, may we remember that true joy is found in Christ alone.

St. Philip Neri, pray for us. 🤍

MAY 25 | MEMORIAL OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, Mother of the Church

The Congregation on Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, at the instance of the Holy Father, has issued a decree establishing the Memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church. The liturgical celebration will be celebrated annually as a Memorial on Monday after Pentecost.

PRAYER: O God, Father of mercies, whose Only Begotten Son, as he hung upon the Cross, chose the Blessed Virgin Mary, his mother, to be our Mother also, grant, we pray, that with her loving help your Church may be more fruitful day by day and, exulting in the holiness of her children, may draw to her embrace all the families of the people. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

Founded by Jesus Christ since 33 AD, the Catholic Church has journeyed through centuries of persecution—from outside and even within—yet patuloy siyang nakatayo, guided and renewed by the Holy Spirit through the leadership of the Supreme Pontiff with bishops and priests. Sa kabila ng mga pagsubok, “the Church… will receive its perfection only in the glory of heaven” (CCC 769), paalala na ang kanyang lakas ay hindi lang mula sa tao kundi mula sa Diyos. This is not just history—it is a living testimony of faith that continues to endure.

MEMORIAL OF ST. BERNARDINE OF SIENA
May 20

Today, the Church honors Saint Bernardine of Siena, a humble Franciscan priest known for his powerful preaching, deep love for the Holy Name of Jesus, and unwavering call for people to return to God through repentance and prayer.

Despite suffering from poor health in his youth, St. Bernardine became one of the most influential preachers of his time. He traveled from town to town preaching peace, reconciliation, and conversion. Thousands gathered to hear him speak because his words came not only from wisdom, but from a heart completely surrendered to God.

St. Bernardine strongly promoted devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus, often displaying the symbol “IHS,” representing the name of Christ. Through this devotion, he reminded the faithful that true hope, healing, and salvation are found in Jesus alone.

His life teaches us that holiness is not about popularity or recognition, but about faithfully using our voice, talents, and life to bring others closer to God. In a world filled with noise, anger, and division, St. Bernardine reminds us to speak words that heal, encourage, and lead others toward peace.

May his example inspire us to proclaim Christ not only through our words, but also through the way we live each day.

St. Bernardine of Siena, pray for us. 🙏

FIRST ENCYCLICAL OF POPE LEO XIV TO BE RELEASED ON MAY 25

The Vatican has officially announced that the first encyclical of Pope Leo XIV, titled Magnifica Humanitas (“Magnificent Humanity”), will be released on May 25, 2026.

The document was signed on May 15, marking the 135th anniversary of the landmark social encyclical Rerum Novarum written by Pope Leo XIII in 1891. That historic document addressed the struggles of workers and the social issues brought about by the Industrial Revolution. Today, Pope Leo XIV seeks to respond to a new revolution — the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies.

The full title of the encyclical is Magnifica Humanitas: On the Protection of Human Dignity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. Through this document, the Holy Father is expected to offer moral guidance on how humanity should approach AI while preserving human dignity, justice, labor, truth, and ethical responsibility.

In a world where technology continues to advance faster than ever, the Church reminds us that human beings must never be reduced to data, machines, or mere productivity. Artificial intelligence may assist humanity, but it should never replace compassion, conscience, morality, and the sacred value of every human person created in the image of God.

Just as the Church once guided the world during the first industrial revolution, Pope Leo XIV now calls the faithful to reflect deeply on the challenges of this new digital age. This upcoming encyclical could become one of the most important Church documents of our generation, especially as AI increasingly influences education, work, communication, governance, and even human relationships.

Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

Today, we celebrate the Ascension, when the Lord was taken up to heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. As the Gospel tells us, He did not leave us alone, but gave us the great mission to go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to every creation, promising that He will be with us always until the end of time.

Though He is seated in glory, His presence remains alive in our midst. This feast reminds us that our true home is in heaven, and as His disciples, we are called to be witnesses of His love and truth wherever we go, guided by His grace and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
