Matthew 22:37-40 ICB
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.’ This is the first and most important command. And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ All the law and the writings of the prophets depend on these two commands.”

Jesus concludes by stating that all the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. This means that the entire Old Testament, with its numerous laws and teachings, can be summarized and understood in light of these two commandments.

Love for God and love for others form the foundation and guiding principles for interpreting and living out the Law and the Prophets.
