Happy Birthday Dane

On this special day, we honor not just your life, but the remarkable heart behind your faithful service as an altar server. You are a shining example of what it means to live with purpose, humility, and a deep love for God. Every time you step up to serve, whether anyone thanks you or not, youโ€™re offering something beautiful your time, your reverence, your heart. And that does not go unnoticed not by those around you, and certainly not by God.

Youโ€™ve committed yourself to the ministry with a maturity beyond your years. Youโ€™ve shown up on early mornings, served through long Masses, learned the rituals, and carried them out with grace. In your quiet way, youโ€™ve become a leader โ€” not by speaking loudly, but by living faithfully. Thatโ€™s something rare and deeply powerful.

And beyond the church, youโ€™re juggling studies, responsibilities, dreams, and maybe even some fears. Yet, through it all, you keep your heart centered on God, and that is something truly admirable. Your balance of service and discipline speaks to a future thatโ€™s bright with promise. God is clearly working in your life, shaping you for something beautiful.

As you turn another year older, I pray you feel how proud God is of you not for being perfect, but for being willing. Willing to serve. Willing to grow. Willing to say "yes" even when itโ€™s hard. Thatโ€™s the kind of heart He can do amazing things with.

May this year overflow with blessings in your faith, your studies, your relationships, and in every quiet moment when you need strength. Never forget that your service makes a difference. You are sowing seeds of grace that will bloom in ways you may never fully see.

So hereโ€™s to you a faithful servant, a kind soul, and someone who carries the light of Christ wherever you go. Keep walking in faith, and trust that God is already paving the way for all the great things ahead.

Happy Birthday! May your year be full of favor, growth, and Godโ€™s endless love. Keep shining. Keep serving. You are a gift to us all.

Happy Birthday, Kuya Christian!!!

Today, we celebrate not just another year of your life, but also the countless lives youโ€™ve touched and inspired, especially ours, your sakristans. You are not only our mentor and leader, but also our second big brother in faith. Youโ€™ve guided us with patience, corrected us with kindness, and taught us with a heart full of understanding and love for the Lord.

Every time we serve in the altar, we remember the lessons youโ€™ve shared that being a sakristan is more than just wearing a robe or holding candles; itโ€™s about serving with humility, discipline, and pure devotion to God. Youโ€™ve shown us how to serve with joy, to pray sincerely, and to always give our best no matter how small our role may seem.

Kuya, your dedication, hard work, and selflessness never go unnoticed. You always make time to teach, to lead, and to make sure each one of us grows not only in service but also in faith and character. Youโ€™ve been patient when we make mistakes, understanding when weโ€™re still learning, and encouraging whenever we feel unsure. You lead by example, showing us that true leadership means guiding others with compassion and faith.

Thank you for being the kind of mentor who listens, supports, and believes in us. Thank you for teaching us that our service in the church is not just an obligation, but a calling, a way to show our love for God and for others. You have made serving in the altar more meaningful and fulfilling.

May the Lord continue to bless you with wisdom, good health, and happiness. May He reward all the sacrifices and efforts youโ€™ve made for the ministry and for us, your sakristans. We pray that God gives you strength to keep inspiring and leading us with the same light and passion youโ€™ve always shown.

Once again, happy birthday, Kuya Christian! You are a true blessing to us and to the Church. Weโ€™re so grateful for your guidance and for all the lessons you continue to share. Enjoy your special day, you truly deserve all the love, prayers, and appreciation today and always! ๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿ’—

HAPPY FIESTA, SAN LORENZO RUIZ
FIRST FILIPINO SAINT
SEPTEMBER 28, 2025

Saint Lorenzo Ruiz was born in Manila of a Chinese father and a Filipino mother, both Christians. Thus he learned Chinese and Tagalog from them, and Spanish from the Dominicans whom he served as altar boy and sacristan. He became a professional calligrapher, transcribing documents in beautiful penmanship. He was a full member of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary under Dominican auspices. He married and had two sons and a daughter.

Lorenzoโ€™s life took an abrupt turn when he was accused of murder. Nothing further is known except the statement of two Dominicans that โ€œhe was sought by the authorities on account of a homicide to which he was present or which was attributed to him.โ€

At that time, three Dominican priests, Antonio Gonzalez, Guillermo Courtet, and Miguel de Aozaraza, were about to sail to Japan in spite of a violent persecution there. With them was a Japanese priest, Vicente Shiwozuka de la Cruz, and a layman named Lazaro, a l***r. Lorenzo, having taken asylum with them, was allowed to accompany them. But only when they were at sea did he learn that they were going to Japan.

They landed at Okinawa. Lorenzo could have gone on to Formosa, but, he reported, โ€œI decided to stay with the Fathers, because the Spaniards would hang me there.โ€ In Japan they were soon found out, arrested, and taken to Nagasaki. The site of wholesale bloodshed when the atomic bomb was dropped had known tragedy before. The 50,000 Catholics who once lived there were dispersed or killed by persecution.

They were subjected to an unspeakable kind of torture: After huge quantities of water were forced down their throats, they were made to lie down. Long boards were placed on their stomachs and guards then stepped on the ends of the boards, forcing the water to spurt violently from mouth, nose and ears.

The superior, Fr. Gonzalez, died after some days. Both Fr. Shiwozuka and Lazaro broke under torture, which included the insertion of bamboo needles under their fingernails. But both were brought back to courage by their companions.

In Saint Lorenzo Ruizโ€™s moment of crisis, he asked the interpreter, โ€œI would like to know if, by apostatizing, they will spare my life.โ€ The interpreter was noncommittal, but in the ensuing hours Lorenzo felt his faith grow strong. He became bold, even audacious, with his interrogators.

The five were put to death by being hanged upside down in pits. Boards fitted with semi-circular holes were fitted around their waists and stones put on top to increase the pressure. They were tightly bound, to slow circulation and prevent a speedy death. They were allowed to hang for three days. By that time Lorenzo and Lazaro were dead. Still alive, the three priests were then beheaded.

In 1987, Pope John Paul II canonized these six and 10 others: Asians and Europeans, men and women, who spread the faith in the Philippines, Formosa, and Japan. Lorenzo Ruiz is the first canonized Filipino martyr. The liturgical feast of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz and Companions is celebrated on September 28.

Maligayang Kaarawan at Anibersaryo sa Pagkapari, Reb. Padre Conrad Amon!
