Passion of St. John the Baptist | “I am." — A powerful divine declaration that sets the tone for the Passion narrative in the Gospel of St. John.

Unlike other accounts, John presents Jesus not as a passive victim, but in absolute sovereign control of His arrest, trials, and ultimate sacrifice. From the Garden in the Kidron Valley to the heights of Golgotha, His royal dignity and heavenly kingship shine through every moment.

Swipe through to reflect on how John’s Gospel frames the Passion not as defeat, but as the triumphant fulfillment of divine scripture and the prelude to the Resurrection.

SAINT OF THE DAY | SAINT AUGUSTINE, DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH

Feast Day: August 28
Patronage: Theologians, printers, brewers, sore eyes, and many dioceses.

A great teacher of the Church, Saint Augustine turned away from a life of sin to follow God completely. His life reminds us that it is never too late to change, grow in holiness, and love God with all our heart.

He was born in North Africa and lived a wild life as a young man. Thanks to the prayers of his mother, Saint Monica, he changed his ways and became a priest and a bishop. He wrote many famous books about God and faith. He passed away peacefully on August 28, 430.

Saint Augustine, pray for us.

SAINT OF THE DAY I St. Monica of Hippo

Feast Day: August 27
Patroness of: Mothers, Wives, and Homemakers

Identity: Saint Monica (331–387 AD), a North African Christian woman of Berber descent, Mother of Saint Augustine of Hippo.

Saint Monica (331–387 AD), also known as St. Monica og Hippo, a North African Christian woman of Berber descent, Mother of Saint Augustine of Hippo. Born in Tagaste in either 331 or 332, Monica was raised in a Christian family. St. Monica married Patricius, a pagan man who served on the city council. Despite their differences, she remained a patient, loving, and peaceful wife. Her son St. Augustine did not follow the Christian faith when he was young. Monica continuously prayed for her son and husband, hoping they would eventually turn to God.

St. Monica's faith, wisdom, and prayers greatly influenced Augustine. St. Augustine later recognized that his mother, St. Monica, had planted the seeds of faith in his heart.
She experienced great joy when Augustine became a Christian. She was also present at his baptism before her death. Saint Monica died at Ostia, near Rome, around 387. She is remembered as a symbol of faithful motherhood, patience, prayer, and perseverance. St.Monica never stopped praying for the people she loved.

Short Daily Invocation:
“Lord, guide us today with faith, wisdom, and kindness. May we follow the example of Saint Monica by being patient, prayerful, and loving toward others. Give us strength to face our challenges and courage to do what is right.”

SAINT OF THE DAY | SAINT BARTHOLOMEW, THE APOSTLE

Feast Day: August 24
Patronage: Tanners, leatherworkers, cobblers, butchers, dermatologists, plasterers, and co-patron saint of Armenia.

A faithful disciple of Christ, Saint Bartholomew courageously proclaimed the Gospel and remained steadfast in his faith until martyrdom. His life reminds us that true discipleship means following Christ with courage, humility, and unwavering love.

Martyrdom: According to tradition, he suffered a cruel martyrdom in Albanopolis, Armenia. He was flayed alive (skinned) and then crucified or beheaded for converting the local king's brother to Christianity. Because of this, in sacred art (such as Michelangelo’s Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel), he is often depicted holding his own skin or a flaying knife.

Saint Bartholomew, pray for us.

IN PHOTOS | 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gathered as one faithful community at the Table of the Lord on this 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time, we echo the bold confession of Simon Peter in today’s Gospel (Matthew 16:13–20), professing our unshakeable belief in Jesus as the Messiah who holds the keys to eternal salvation; nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we pray for the grace to carry this living proclamation into our daily lives, standing firm on the rock of faith and walking together in unity, hope, and love.

"You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."
—Matthew 16:16

SAINT OF THE DAY | St. Rose of Lima

Feast day: August 23
Patron saint of: Florists, gardeners, embroidery workers, Peru, South America, and the Philippines.

Today, August 23, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Rose of Lima, Third Order Dominican, mystic, and the first canonized saint of the Americas.

A woman of intense devotion and selfless charity, Saint Rose reminds us that true beauty lies in a life offered entirely to God. Her simple life of prayer, penance, and tireless care for the poor and sick inspires us to find holiness in everyday acts of compassion and quiet sacrifice.

May the example of Saint Rose of Lima encourage us to bloom wherever God places us, serving our neighbors with love, purity, and steadfast faith.

Saint Rose of Lima, pray for us!
