Praise be to God!
HABEMUS PAPAM!
His Holiness POPE LEO XIV
the 267th Supreme Pontiff
With profound joy and hope, we welcome His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., as the 267th Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.
In a historic moment for the Catholic Church, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, O.S.A., has been elected Pope Leo XIV, becoming the 267th successor of Saint Peter. Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, he is the first American-born pope and the first member of the Augustinian Order to ascend to the papacy.
Pope Leo XIV's pastoral journey is marked by decades of missionary work in Peru, where he served as Bishop of Chiclayo from 2015 to 2023. His deep commitment to social justice and inclusivity closely aligns with the vision of his predecessor, Pope Francis. Known for his humility and aversion to the spotlight, he has been a compassionate advocate for marginalized communities, including Venezuelan migrants in Peru.
In his first address from the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo XIV greeted the faithful with the words, “Peace be with all of you!” He emphasized themes of unity and continuity, paid tribute to Pope Francis, and expressed a strong commitment to fostering dialogue and inclusiveness within the Church.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, we thank You for the gift of Pope Leo XIV. Grant him wisdom, courage, and compassion as he leads Your Church in truth and love. May his ministry be a beacon of unity and peace, guiding us all closer to You. Amen.
Let us, especially the young people of the Church, pray fervently for our new Holy Father—that he may inspire, lead, and accompany us with the hope and joy of the Gospel.
